This is my first post, so please excuse any errors I may make.

We just received our approval,(I'm a Canadian my husband is a naturalized US citizen). I'm trying to get a head start on assembling information which may be needed when our "packets" arrive. This website has been enormously helpful! One thing puzzles me, though. I'm retired on a comfortable pension and investment income, well above the poverty levels described on this and other sites, even allowing for a big exchange variance. I also have some tidy investments here in Canada. Is an affidavit of support always required from the Petitioner, or do they take the beneficiaries income into consideration? This is not employment income, it's retirement income and will be a constant. It just kind of bugs me in a way that my husband would have to vouch for my financial situation when my retirement/pension income is almost as much as his salary. Any ideas?

Very simple, if your husband's income is above the poverty guidelines then you would not need to provide any information about your finances, but if he is lower then you can claim your income or any money that you have and you will be still using when you come to the US .

Good Luck

The US Citizen petitioner is required to file an affidavit of support. If they qualify with their own income, nothing is needed from you about your finances. If they don't qualify, your income or assets may be used.
