Immunization Question for Canadians

Hi everyone,

I have a quick question or two regarding the immunizations for the medical. I am wondering how official the immunization records need to be. My husband found an old family physician report specifying all his immunizations from when he was a baby. The unfortunate part is that it's not signed by the physician. How strict are the doctors regarding the immunizations? Is the document good enough? Is it better if my husband just gets the immunizations again?

We both recently got a TD shot for a trip down to Mexico. I'm assuming this can count as a booster shot but i'm unsure.

Has anyone tried calling the offices of the people conducting the medicals and asking them how official the immunizations need to be before their appointment?

One interesting note is that you can't book your medical well in advance like the interview. My husband tried to book his for February and the receptionist told him to call back in 2 months. Weird.

Thanks,

- Sam

I contacted the medical offices in Toronto with numerous questions about my immunization. You can have your husband call them to see if they are 'official' enough. Also, you can have your husband contact the public health department where he went to school - they are required to keep the records of the immunizations required for school. I used the public health records and had no issues

Good luck

Before having all the shots done, you can have your family doctor do a titer test to see what antibodies are present in the blood, then get only the shots that need boosted.

Thank you for your answers!

I think the best approach for my husband is to call the doctor's office and find out if the immunization forms is good enough as well as as getting a titer test.

Thanks again,

- Sam

I went to my GP and he made notes on his prescription pad about the shots I would have received in the UK (because that's where I'm from so I didn't have a Canadian immunization record). He also gave me a couple of boosters and noted those also. I took the signed script to the Panel Physician and they were fine with that. Oh, I had printed off the Immunization Requirements to show him so he knew what I was talking about.
