Direct Consular Filing- Available in Montreal?

My fiance and I are reviewing our options again, and are interested in persuing DCF.

The guide says that we must find out whether our local US Consulate offers DCF or not, and so I'm hoping someone on here can answer our questions?

1. I know that the interview for a K-1 visa are only held at the Vancouver consulate and the Montreal consulate; does this mean that we will have to go to Montreal for the DCF (as opposed to Toronto, much closer)?

2. If we do need to go to Montreal, does the Montreal consulate offer DCF?

Has anyone gone this route with a US+Canada DCF?

My fiance is in Texas, but as he will be coming up close to Canada for Christmas, we could conceivably get married then and then hightail it to Montreal (or Toronto, if they do it there)

Only Montreal does the DCF option, and it is available for couples where the US citizen in the relationship is considered a permanent resident of Canada. Since your fiance does not currently live in Canada, DCF is not an option for you, I am sorry.

As Cassie stated, only Montreal does DCF (due to the fact that ALL Consular Immigrant Visas have been issued at Montreal for at least 10 years--why that perverse logic, I dunno, but it cost me an extra C$500 in lodging to do my employment-based GC against if it had been done in Calgary).

Actually, you can do your initial filing of DCF at the Toronto consulate (actually most consulates in Canada). My wife and I did this back on February 28th, and we now have our actual interview in Montreal on September 8th.

Actually, you can do your initial filing of DCF at the Toronto consulate (actually most consulates in Canada). My wife and I did this back on February 28th, and we now have our actual interview in Montreal on September 8th.

one more thing though, your wife needs to be a resident of Canada to use DCF... so that might scuttle your plans.

According to that site, yes, he isn't eligible:

"U.S. citizens resident in Canada who wish to file I-130 petitions on behalf of their spouse, minor children or parents who also reside in Canada may do so at the U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate in whose district they reside. Such filings must be done in person. Please check with the appropriate office to determine the correct hours and procedures for filing I-130 petitions."

I think I will start a thread about whether we should file a K-1 or get married and file a K-3.

He's the USC, and he isn't a resident of Canada, so no dice, sadly.
