Tourist Visa for my Mom. (Possible Approval?)

Hi everyone,

I would like to ask for your opinion especially for our fellows who are from the Philippines.

My husband and I were thinking of instead going home this holiday, We would just want my mom to come over to visit us this coming Christmas season. But we are kinda worried of the chances of my mom to get a visa.. She is 45 years old and self employed.

These are the proofs of her strong ties in the Philippines;

-Title for our PUVs (Public Utility Vehicles) (this is our livelihood)

-2 Employment Certificates from her employment ( She is an executive secretary of a public transport organization and a branch auditor for microbanking for goods vendors)

-Bank account/Credit card account( showing the last 3 months of continuous flow of cash)

-Birth Certificates of my 2 younger sisters (19 and 10)

-Marriage Certificate with my dad

-family pictures of course showing me and my husband on his visit.

-letter of invitation from my husband, from me and from my mother in law.

Ok, here's the thing, My mom and dad don't have ITR for some reasons they are exempted, which we are worried about this because its one of the proofs which are listed on USEM's site for Tourist visa application.

I don't know if this is one of the essential proof for the consul to be convinced that my mother is qualified to have a visa.

Questions are;

I'm the only primary member of our family who is here in the States but we have relatives here in the US but do you think it would be of her benefit to not just mention about them when she gets her interview?

Since the duration of the stay might be just a month, is this also a plus?

Let me know if my mom has a good chance of getting one so I can start working on the application.

Thank you fellas!

Hi Cathy.

I think your mom has a much better chance of being approved, since you still have two younger sisters she is looking after and a business to return to.

The main thing she has to prove is that she has a reason to return to the Philippines after her visit.

Hi Kaye,

Oh yes. She doesn't have any reason to stay here in the US except for me. I have 2 more younger sisters and a big responsibility to attend with on her work. So I am really crossing my fingers that she will get approved.

Hi! I have the same question too! My mom is planning to visit me here too for holiday! She's already 53 yrs old. She is kinda hesitant to apply for visa. Im afraid to say that she doesn't have much money in the bank, in fact i am the one sends money to her but still i feel it isn't enough. But she works for the Government for 30 yrs, i have a 12 yr old sister who is so much depending on her, we have the title of our house that shows it is fully paid but it's under my dad's name. Somebody told me that if you work in the government (in the philippines) there is a chance that your visa gets approved. My other question is, does it really necessary to have a letter of invitation from me, or from my husband? if so, do we really need to attached any proof of income, payslips, or bank statements together with that invitation? I do not have a job right now but my husband works for the government here in the US.

The application form she will fill out will ask questions about relatives.

Usually the interview itself is very short, maybe a couple of questions.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I am not being negative but I will share my experience. My mom is 66 years old. retired public teacher. She owns two houses. One for renting. Have a couple of farm lots. We sent I-134. invitationn letters.. etc etc ...

Here are the questions:

1.) Are you working? No.

2.) Is your daughter working in the US? Yes

3.) What does your daughter do? Accounting

.. denied....

Not sure what to think. We thought we were ready. Her interview was just last Oct 4th in Manila Embassy.

I will not stop you from pursuing it though.. you won't know until you tried :) Just hop up and try. And I guess since your mom is still in the working force that might be a good start.

Blessings to you!

My assumption is the decision had been made before the interview.

I think all 3 answers could have been gleaned from the application form.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

You'll never know what the consul is looking for. Just based from some applications for tourist visas from Retired individuals here in VJ, it seems to be that they are more likely will not get approved.

I am crossing my fingers about my mom's application. I have read one thread, here comes this woman from the Philippines who was the only ties she has in the Philippines is her 1 younger child but then got approved.

Thank you for the feedback R&W.

Interesting. My wife's situation is the complete opposite. Her mother is 65 years old. She is a retired elementary school teacher, she owns her home, and also has a few farm properties.

Her questions:

1) Are you working? No.

2) Is your daughter working in the U.S.? Yes.

3) What does she do? She is a physical therapist.

***Approved***

In our case, the mother's unemployment/retirement was not an issue. I think the decision was based more on the evidence that the beneficiary will return to the Philippines.

OP, include as much evidence showing strong ties to the Philippines. Good luck with your petition!

By the way, my day passed away two years ago.

My mom has three kids, all grown ups. One in the Philippines, one in Dubai. One here in the US. .. .. and not to mention.. one grandson here in the US. One granddaughter in the Philippines.

The consul only needs ONE doubt to not give a tourist visa... and maybe that is my two-year-old son.

It's okay though.... my citizenship is in process so we'll give the IR-5 a shot.
