ok friends im in the waiting stage after sending the petition and got my NOA1. a friend told me to start working on the 156, 156k and ds 230. i go to download the forms and all 3 of them say that the us embassy provides the forms. my friend has alrdy been through the process, should i still print them off and do them or wait till they send them from the embassy? confused why she would tell me one thing and the forms another.

That is exactly the reason that consulate processing type topics are best posted in the consulate forum... when dealing with the consulate stage you need a consulate specific answer

YMMV

Try downloading the forms here http://www.state.gov/m/a/dir/forms/visa/index.htm

Many African embassies do not send the packet 3. They expect you to download it yourself.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DOWNLOAD ANY OF THOSE FORMS ONLINE. WHEN YOU RECEIVE PACKET 3, ALL THESE FORMS WOULD BE FOUND IN THERE. AS A MATTER OF FACT, THE PACKET 3 CONTAINS EVERYTHING YOUR FIANCE/FIANCÉE IS REQUIRED TO DO SO THERE SHLDN'T BE ANY PANIC. OUR PACKET 3 CONTAINED ALL FORMS NEEDED INCLUDING 156, 156K AND ALL OTHER FORMS NEEDED.

Kofi,

I understand how you feel! It seems like there is SOMETHING we could/should be doing after sending everything in to USCIS. From what I understand... until you get the NOA2 there really isnt alot you can do. As far as the forms.. I saw the online documents but am waiting for him to pick up the packet #3 so that they can tell us EXACTLY what they want. I believe we should be getting it either before or during the time I'm there (since that would be 5 months after our NOA1). If so, I can meet with you while we are both in Ghana and let you and your fiance know exactly what they told us and go over all the forms with you. Let me know if you think that might be a good idea. I'm willing to help anyway I can.

The packet Ghana gives- is very messed up. (old forums show this stuff as well) They give both K-1 and CR-1 Information. So nothing is that clear.

The forms they give are expired and old- so using the ones from the website ensures they are up to date and they wont give you issues about them.

Getting pkt 3 is hard in ghana as well. You need to wait for a letter that never comes- so you can email them after you know NVC has sent you approval to the embassy. They will after a few weeks (if your lucky) get back to you with a pickup date for pkt 3 and 4- which will have the information and interview date.

DS-156 needs to be filled online because there is a barcode required.

DS-156k

DS-157 (this is not listed but they make reference to the form in one of the pages-)

DS-230 part 1

I-134 (which they dont give you)

Letter of continued support

evidence of relationship.

birth certificate

medical and vaccine papers

police certificate less then a month old

$350.00 visa fee

As i have said- while you are waiting getting the information for the forms is what you can do for now- dob/dod/names/locations and so on for all of those forms.

Start compiling your proof for I-134 (ghana now requires tax transcripts from what recent interviews have learned), letters from employers, and so on).

Thats what i can suggest right now for the two of you... good luck. Let me know if you have any other questions.
