Just a question, My husband wants to take me to Alaska to see snow and mountains and I don't have my AP approved yet.

It's going through Canada so I was just wondering if there is like some kind of POE that would require AP?

I know for sure that the airport here in Jacksonville, FL doesn't have a POE and I understand that I need my AP to enter the US again...

Anyone help me please?

If it's going through Canada, not only would you need AP, but you will also need a Canadian transit visa, even if you stop for less than 48 hours. (You can verify that here: http://www.cic.gc.ca...visit-faq02.asp)

What's the rest of your itinerary? Jacksonville is a POE (http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/88037.pdf)

(On a side note, we did our biometrics today :) and both our applications were touched!)

If it is a direct flight from any U.S. state to Alaska, you should be fine. That's what I would do. Try to find a ticket if you haven't book it yet that flies without stopping in Canada. This way it wouldn't be as if you even left the U.S.

1 - All American POEs will require you to have an AP in order to re-enter the USA. The Canadian POE will require you to have the necessary documents to enter (even if you are just transiting) Canada. If you are connecting flight in Canada, you may actually clear US Immigration at the Canadian airport (depending on the airport). This is confusing because you will clear Canada Immigration then clear US Immigration all while in the Canadian airport.

2 - Not all US airports have a POE. Only US airports with international flights originating at airports without US Immigration facilities need a POE.

For more info on the above, check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_border_preclearance

But anyway, if you don't have your AP you shouldn't leave the USA, even if you are just transiting while ultimately ending in the USA. You should take a direct flight from the lower 48 to Alaska.

FWIW, most flights either go through denver or seattle to get to alaska. If you are flying direct from either one of those locations, you will be fine. Don't plan a stop in canada unless you have your AP and documents to stay in canada. I am pretty sure that if a plane had to divert and land in canada (not that you really could in most routes) I dont think they would hold that against you, but it is always best to have your AP just in case....because you never know.
