Hello everyone! I've been reading this forum over to understand more of EP. lol

I sent in my AOS packet and they already recieved it and put it in the system, same with my hubbys IV stuff. Now on FEB 1st we got a RFE in our emails saying the benf has to fill out the DS-260.

Our main concern is the documents, we already mailed them in and hope that we don't have to email them! What do you guys think? I'll be calling NVC today to ask some questions though.

ThankkYou! :star:

The answer would be no. It's asking if the spouse is immigrating with the beneficiary. But in IR-1/CR-1 cases, the spouse is the US citizen, so they would definitely not be immigrating. I hope this clears it up.

I still don't understand this question. Who is the question for? It's an application FOR the beneficiary, so why are they asking the beneficiary if his spouse is moving to the US? His spouse IS in the US sponsoring him to COME there, not accompany him now or at a later date. Is this a question for the applicant? Why is the applicant being asked a question on a form filled out by the BENEFICIARY!? If its talking to Her (in the US and sponsoring Him) then its a yes. If its talking to Him (outside the US and being sponsored) then why are they asking this!?

This form is supposed to be filled out by the beneficiary.

But you have to remember, not everyone who fills this form out is being sponsored by their spouse. There are IR-5 cases for parents, or IR-2 cases for siblings. Although this question is irrelevant for spousal visas, it might be relevant to others.

Hi All,

After reading all the thread I am left with some questions about the EP for Montreal:

1- On EP (opting in) if DS260 and DS261 sent there is no need to send DS3032 and DS230?

2- If doing the DS260-261 all documents are sent over email no need to mail anything? (I saw contradicting posts where some emailed and snail mailed the docs... which is the way to go?

3- Same as question #2 but for AOS i-864: is it done all over the email right?

Many Thanks!!

1. Yes, that's right. The online DS-260 replaces the DS-230 and the online DS-261 replaces the DS-3032.

2. If you opt in for EP, documents are sent by email. If you don't opt in for EP, you snail mail these documents. The posts you saw aren't contradicting. Some people opted in for EP while others didn't.

3. Same thing as #2. If you opted in for EP, you email the I-864. If you don't opt in, then you snail mail them.

I'm not sure if it's in this thread or not, but yes, I know of someone who filled out the DS-260, then got requested to do the DS-230 and another person who filled out the DS-230, then got requested to do the DS-260. This is because it was during the transition of having the online forms mandatory for Montreal spouses. Now the transition is done though, so the DS-261 and DS-260 are now required and mandatory.

DS260 and DS261 (Online Application...NOT EP) are mandatory (for montreal) as stated, documents can be scanned and emailed which is what is consider EP, I did the DS260 and snail mailed in my documents, also received a checklist to do the DS230, if you do just disregard that message unless maybe they finally are capable of distinguishing the difference and that checklist wont occur... just call until you get a "competent" operator at nvc lol. I dont think it has taken me much longer after sending in my documents than those who opted for EP so whichever way is convenient for you guys will work just fine.

Hello ! I just need some help with this DS-260 form I received an Email from the NVC saying that my case was approved for the electronic processing, It also says that I should not send any paper forms to the NVC center because this will delay my case, that all originals forms should be be presented at the day of interview at the embassy wich on this case is the CJ embassy. My question is: DO I STILL HAVE TO SEND ALL THE ORIGINALS DOCUMENTS AS THE I-864 AND THE DS-230 + THE CIVIL DOCUMENTS TO THE NVC CENTER ? I'n a little confuse please help... :help:

You have to scan in all original documents as if you were going to snail mail them in. You're using the internet instead of the USPS. You will still have to take those original documents to the embassy, but you do not have to snailmail them to the NVC.

Holding my nose and jumping off the cliff.. hope I don't hit any rocks in the water.

I haven't reached NVC yet, so I have a few questions on this DS-260 business and hope you can answer. With this DS-261 (CoA form), you fill it out online and submit it, correct? There's now no need to opt in for EP and attach a DS-3032?

If that's correct, would this be the track to get through NVC?:

1-NVC receives case

2-Call up and give email addresses, ask for IIN and beneficiary ID

3-Submit DS-261

4-Pay AoS bill when it appears

5-When shown as PAID, submit the I-864 package as a PDF to NVCelectronic email

6-Pay IV bill when it appears

7-When shown as PAID, submit the DS-260 online form and submit the DS-230 docs as a PDF to NVCelectronic email

8-Wait for case complete

Am I understanding that correctly?

Thanks Saylin for posting the steps for getting through the Montreal process. I just wanted to make sure that this list is still complete and accurate.

If you're "oppting in" for EP at which step is that email sent?

Does the DS-230 still need to be submitted via email? The only way that makes sense to me is that Montreal wants the 260 and the NVC wants the 230, am I making the right assumption?

As a little helper I've included the "short cut" for getting through the phone system at the NVC. Saves me a few minutes each time.
