Just about to file for aos for my new husband from vwp. Obviously he has no social security number which is needed for just about everything. When we get his EAD will he be able to obtain a social? Is it ok to wait for that to start establishing things like this? I was gonna wait to change my name as well to avoid any confusion with my current documents. Is that a good idea? When will my step daughter be able apply for a social security card? How soon can we register her in school? (we are homeschooling her right now).

Well our EAD card came about a week before we got our notice for interview, so unless you think you can get these documents very quickly after receiving EAD you should find other proofs that don't require a SS number.

Well for sure we will have the birth certificate of our son who is due in 8 weeks, electric bill with both our names, more pictures, and of course, anything I get without a social. Thank you for your response.

That should be okay. My bank did not need a SS number to open an account. Why don't you call around and see if anyone in your area offers the same thing?

We have an account at Citibank with no social for my husband. Once you get your EAD you can get a social and open more things, etc. Sometimes the interview is right after the EAD (or before you even get the EAD) but in our case everything is very delayed locally so we got EAD + social.
