I actually agree with Cleo, the only time I saw the UK flag flying was during World Cup season, and I don't know anyone who likes to put flags up on their bikes or whatever as kids. It's not like in the US where the flag is literally everywhere you turn, and children seem to be raised to respect the flag a lot more.

It's not even the UK flag during world cup, it's usually just the England flag.

From my experience, while everyone knows that the flag is symbolic, it's not wrapped up in the same pseudo-religious BS that it is in the US. People can be proud of their country and culture without the need to wave a flag to do it.

Nor the "right" I take it?

I think all one has to do to "get to the bottom of this " is take a look at the kid on the bike, and see that the "real issue" was not the flag flying per se, but that the flag made it easier for the bullies to find this poor kid and *e#t his ar$e. another nod to political correctness on the

schools part, they asked him not to fly his "freak flag" for his own personal safety.. but as usual its been taken out of context. Clearly his parents are CLUELESS as they are allowing him to single himself out for ridicule and harrassment by his classmates.

I read between the lines that the school was trying to protect a kid in an age group where children are vicious and deliberately cruel to anyone who is perceived to be "different'. This kid is having a one man fourth of July parade every day.. which is WEIRD and out of the norm which some of you find disturbingly patriotic.

Of course this is America and he is "free to fly the American Flag, the Mexican Flag or the flag of Satan on his bike.. but I strongly suspect if he was flying either of the latter two those who have supported his right to fly ANY flag in America.. would suddenly make a U turn and think of a million reasons he shouldn't.

This story is about a weird kid doing an odd thing and not some national patriot.

Speaking of "freak flags", wonder what would be the opinion of some if a school forbid a student from flying a "pink triangle" flaG FROM HIS BIKE?

Would they applaud that it was forbidden to protect him from bullies?

Or would they insist the bullies be dealt with rather than an innocent student?

The point you missed is why you, the school, the media or anyone else should give a toss about something like this. It's completely inane.

It's a hyperbolic response to a manufactured controversy.

Danno, since you insist on avoiding any discussion of the thread topic and are insistent on personalising it, it's time to hit the report button. I think.

Other than my observation of your over use of a word in the last post, make your case for how I "insist on avoiding topic discussion" (a topic I brought to the board).

If you need a tissue, ......lem'me know.

No tissue needed, Danno (yet more baiting). You reply to my posts but ignore the points raised in order to make personal attacks. You've done it consistently in this thread.

If you honestly want a discussion about this topic, then there is no need to do this.

You all know that personal attacks, whether direct or by innuendo, are not acceptable. Neither are baiting posts, nor back and forth bickering because you disagree with someone's statement or position. These types of comments really add nothing to the discussion as well as being against the Terms of Service, so please stop it.

It's due to the liberal policy of "Peace at any price".

Liberal suck.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Danno boy seems a bit confused. Now one in the UK gives a #### what flag you fly on your bike or anywhere else for that matter - or indeed whether you fly one or not, nor whether you burn them or whatever else you feel like doing with a piece of cloth. UK citizens simply do not place any undue importance on faux patriotism.

he he that is true. They also do not drive their country into the stone ages [libeteapartian style] under the guise of patriotism. For example, claiming that cutting off unemployment benefits, not investing a dime into your country or not providing health care to a disabled citizen is somehow patriotic.

Nevertheless, excluding the UK which is the other extreme, it's flat-out ridiculous that the concerns of Hispanics are placed over [higher] than those of the citizens of this country. Certainly will not find this happening in any other country, most definitely not in Mexico.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

To a certain extent it is irrelevant how Americans feel about the US flag. It only affects the magnitude of the discourse. So lets just go with the idea that the flag is a cloth on a pole. Why should anyone be so offended by it to threaten violence, and more to the point, if they are offended then why are they within its jurisdiction?

The problem here is that people are so busy looking at the stature of a piece of cloth that they don't see the underlying problem.
