Hi Guys

Posted something similar before. Got my K-1 Visa in July, was supposed to fly September, but had to have a knee op, which went wrong, since then i have been waiting for a new date for another op. Just got my date for 9th Dec which means i wont be able to fly untill Dec 29th 2010, my Visa expires on Jan 7th 2011. Is the time to fly too near the end of my visa expirey date and would affect my AOS application later on or anything else down the line.Do you need to be in the country a certain amount of time before the visa expires.

My other option being to postpone the op untill May/June 2011 when i will be coming home for a family wedding.

This has been a nightmare after my visa journey went so smooth.

Thanks guys

Warren

As long as you use the visa by the expiry date, there are no worries, you can use it on the first or last date. Once in the USA, the visa is useless, and a new countdown clock begins, as you will have 90 days to get married.

Do you think they wil ask akward questions about why it has took so long to use my visa, and should i take proof of operation and hospital letters etc...

Thanks again

I believe once you move to the US you don't qualify for your medical benefits back home the way you used to. I am sure someone will add more info but look into it.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

No need to explain, they know some people take a while to wrap up their lives before moving. We delayed our departure for over a month because we wanted to find a good home for our elderly cats which the vet said shouldn't travel!

You have received excellent advice here already. You have 6 months to use it so flying on the 29th of December will cause no problems. They give you 6 months so you do have that time to tie up loose ends...plan your wedding etc. They may ask you why you waited till near the end out of curiosity but I'm sure the fact that you needed knee surgery will be more then enough of an answer. Many people wait till near the end, you're far from the first.

If things go wonky with this one or you need some extra time to recover, I believe the embassy has the power to extend the validity of your visa if you are unable to travel in time for medical reasons. Hope you don't need that, but I wanted to let you know the option was there.

Good Luck!
