We really need to take care of our Vets!

One of the great accomplishments of the outgoing Congress is just that. But hey, if you are one of these supposedly patriotic tea party fcuks, then you just throw those bums out. How dare they look out for our veterans.

More noted achievements pertaining to veterans include the passage of the Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act of 2009 which granted appropriations for VA health care in advance for one full year, as well as the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2010 which increased VA funding to over $100 billion for 2010, which was a VA first.

The 111th Congress also enacted the Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act of 2010 to provide assistance to family caregivers, additional assistance to female veterans, and greater VA health care access to veterans living in more rural areas.

Legislation has also been passed to provide veterans receiving VA benefits with a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), nursing home care to parents of veterans who died during active duty, and benefits to Vietnam veterans suffering from the effects of Agent Orange exposure.

...

“I came to town to deliver my testimony on the needs of our nation’s veterans,” stated Foster [Jimmie Foster, the National Commander of the American Legion]. “Before I left, Congress had passed half of our legislative agenda.”

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Don't they have VA hospitals? What does VA have to do with Obamacare?

Well if it's so shitty, why do we have it for our veterans? Let them use the "free market" system.

because their treatment by the va is part of the contract they had with the government, and they were injured/fell ill during military service.

Actually a large number of retired vets did go from military provided services to civilian based providers...... someone remind me of the name of that system or provider?

I think it came about during the base closing at the end of the cold war.

I have not heard one complaint.

I should also add as a public service announcement any veteran (almost) may be eligible for limited healthcare through the V.A.

I found that out when I went to get an I.D. card for discounts at Lowes and other such places.

As typical, you go into a Gov. agency for some simple thing .... and they try to sign you up for all kinds of programs.

No but seriously: That info may be useful to some Vets who didn't partake in the "Summer of recovery".

Yes, I am one of those that fell into a narrow band of veterans that are not eligible for VA medical benefits, even priority 99.
