Where has everyone been getting their affidavits notarized? I'm not familiar with notarizing. I hear that your local bank will do it...for free, right? Can the affidavits be notarized by me even if the person who wrote the affidavit isn't with me?

Your bank should do it or you can find a notary to do it. The person who writes the document must be there in person to sign it in front of the notary, that is the whole point of having it notarized. Check with your specific consulate to see if notarization is really necessary though. In some cases it is not.

Your bank should do it or you can find a notary to do it. The person who writes the document must be there in person to sign it in front of the notary, that is the whole point of having it notarized. Check with your specific consulate to see if notarization is really necessary though. In some cases it is not.

Your bank (where you do your personal banking) usually does it gratis. You can also check the courthouse and mortgage title companies. The yellow pages will show many, many notaries. And yes, the person who is signing the document must be present as identification is required.
