POINT 5 of FORM I-864 (affidavit of Support)

Hi all,

does anybody know where it's possible to get as "example" already filled out the latest edition

of Form I864?

Although I'll get married in about a month, I would like to have clear in advance a very, very confusing part of the a/m form.

Part 5 "sponsor's household size" is extremely confusing to me, for the following

reason:

Part 21a) 1 (number mentioned as the sponsored person)

Part 21c) 1 (number mentioned for the spouse, if he/she married)

including already in the calculation 21b as "1" , on the bottom the total would be "3" (21a + 21b + 21c) but actually the husband and the wife are 2, so how does it have to be exactly filled out this part?

If my husband to be, will be sponsoring me and in 21a must be put number "1", how come that in point

21c once we are married, it have to be put "1" although it looks like that there the spouse is NOT SPONSORED IN THE AFFIDAVIT? Where actually the spouse will be mentioned as "sponsored" then?

It is so confusing.....can anybody help me to understand this point by

a simple explanation?

Don't feel bad about not understanding these forms. I'm an engineer and deal with highly technical documents every day and sometimes I think my head will explode when I read stuff like you quoted.

I think that question is simply asking how many people are already in your sponsor's household, not how many there will be when the AOS is complete. Why they couldn't just say it in English, I don't know. I already had two (me and my daughter) and was adding two (my wife and her son). I put two there. Worked for me.

Yes, this form does have to be notarized. My bank did that free of charge.

Update: I was just reading some other posts and they say the form no longer has to be notarized. I did it 19 months ago so apparently things have changed.

The form does not need to be notarized.

The form says "DO NOT COUNT ANYONE TWICE".

I put "1" for my husband in 21a but did not enter him in 21c since this would be counting him twice.
