We were notified online that my husband's i130 spouse applicaiton is approved and that he needs to drop off his passport at the embassy to receive his immigration visa! yeah.

My two questions are:

1 Once we are notified off the approval, how long do we actually have before we need to drop his passport off at embassy to receive visa?

2 How many months do we have before we actually have to move? (I've heard it was 6 months from the issue of the visa. Can anyone confirm this?)

Our problem is that we have our 3rd baby due in 3 months and its going to be tricky to move before that date. We'd prefer to wait til afterwards but not sure if there is any way to give us an extra month or two. I've thought we could wait another month or so before actually getting his passport to the embassy to stretch things out a bit more for us, but not sure if that would cause a problem???

Thanks for any help!

People will probably get confused by you talking about your I-130 being approved. From reading your past posts, you have been through the interview etc and were then in administrative processing. So you have in fact now received approval of your IR-1 visa application. Hopefully this will help someone else to give you a speedy reply.

The visa generally has a validity of 6 months. However, this cannot be guaranteed 100% because sometimes the visa might have a shorter validity due to, for example, the medical results expiring soon. It -should- be 6 months though.

You should be able to delay taking the passport in for a little while, but I have no idea how much longer. There is also the possibility that if you delay they will issue the visa for a lesser period. I don't -think- this should be a problem, given that most of the stories I've heard of people with short-validity visas have had their medicals a year prior to the expiration date.
