Hello!

Please help me understand these joint sponsorship questions. Thank you all very much!

Situaton:

My USC sister is the origina petitioner. Her house hold size is husbnd+wife+2 children (4) and we are sponsored immigrant. My family size is husand+wife+1 children(3). So the total of household size is 7 right?

Now based on the poverty guideline my USC sister doesnt meet the income threshold. So my another sister who is US LPR will be joint sponsor.

Q.A. So both the main and joint sponsor each has to file an I-864 ?

Q.B.So in both the 864's will it be MY name on part 2. As I am the principal immigrant and my spose an children are derivative beneficiary?

Q.C. SO how would the main and joint sponsor each answer PART 3. question # 8 nd 9 please?

Q.D. How much income my joint sponsosr has to have based on her fanily size is 3+we are 3 total (6)? I am very confused on this one.

Please help with these questions. I really appreciate all yur hep. God bless.

Q.A. The main sponsor has to file an I-864. The second sponsor also has to file an I-864 unless they live in the same house as the first sponsor and so can file an I-864A.

Q.B. Correct. You are the principal immigrant in Part 2.

Q.C. There is only one joint sponsor, not two. So Part 3 (8) must be answered "yes." Your husband and child must both be listed in Part 3 (9) for both forms.

Q.D. For a household size of 6, she would need an income of $36,912.

The petitioner (your sister) has to complete an I-864. If she cannot meet the income requirements, then a second sponsor is needed (your other sister). But the second sponsor must be able to fully meet the requirements on their own. It is not combined together with the petitioner's income. If she does not make $36,912 then consider these things: have you included their husbands' income? Do they have any assets? Is there another sponsor, who would then be able to sponsor part of your family and allow the second sister to only have to sponsor part of the family as well?

Hi JoannaV,

Thank you so much for your great response. I have a better understanding now.Now as far my USC petitioning sister is concerned , she doesnt have any household member with income and she alone doesnt qualify to sponsor 7 houseold memebers. based on the scenario below please tell me what are my options here, thanks again.

**My USC sister`s income is around 10K short from the 7 household poverty guideline threshold. She doesnt have any household member with income. She dosnt have any asset.

**My other LPR sister is willing to joint sponsor but her income is 6K short from 6 household threshold which is $36,912.She has a home in Texas. No other household member with income.

** We (the intending immigrant) have asset( home) in Canada and little savings.

so based on this scenario what are the optons please. Thank you.
