We've been so accustomed to reading 78 people killed in terrorist attack in Yemen, 45 blown up by IED in Iraq, 120 dead by suicide bomber, etc., that we are almost immune to sympathizing or thinking for more than a second about what we really just read. Truth is each event (10000s) did really occur in a much more violent and horrific way than we will ever know. Each innocent victim presumably had a family that loved him/her, children, brothers/sisters, coworkers, friends, etc.

Does anyone have the audacity to say if Atheism was the only religion this would have still happened?

It is not an isolated incident, this happens every single day, 1000s of times over.

A truly shocking and horrific event. Danno posted about this yesterday, and was mocked - I really don't understand why.

Atheists and non-believers are capable of atrocities every bit as terrible as people of Faith.

For every Torquemada who has killed in the name of the Cross there's a Stalin who has killed in the name of Socialism or a Hitler who has done so for the Reich and Aryan Purity or a Saddam who did so just for the sake of holding absolute despotic power. They all find their rationalizations for barbarism. What's common to them all is a depraved indifference to human life.

The reason for the mocking scandal, is because the claim is religion promotes peace when reality gives us example after example where it does the opposite. There are other reasons for killing and mass murder, but they don't really mask the role various religions play when they are the basis for killing and mass murder.
