My aunt (father's sister) has agreed to be our joint-sponsor. We share the same address/household.

But I'm a bit confused as to what AOS paperwork to file regarding her joint-sponsorship. According to the instructions, it doesn't seem like she qualifies as a traditional "household member":

Who May Be Considered a "Household Member" for Purposes of This Form?

A relative who has the same principal residence as the sponsor and is related to the sponsor as a spouse, adult child, parent, or sibling;

Initially I was going to proceed with an I-864a -- is this incorrect?

A household member who is promising to make his or her

income and/or assets available to the sponsor to help support

the sponsored immigrant fills the form I-864A

Let's make it clearer.

If your aunt lives with you at the same household, she would do the I-864A

If she lives in a different place than you, she would do the I-864

Good Luck

You and your aunt shares a residence...it's all I got as to answering an AOS question. Who owns what, where is your spouse, do you have/her have income? :bonk:

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

You aunt is not your parent, sibling, spouse or child so she would do the I-864 as a joint sponsor. Simple as that.

Based on that criteria, yes, I'm inclined to agree -- although initially I really thought it would be an I-864a b/c of our close family relation and shared residence.

what about if you are going to move AFTER you file the I1864A? Most likely I will be filing the I184A while I am living with my mom (our co sponsor), but I will be moving after...it doesn't matter right? All of my tax documents, drivers license, etc has my moms address so I figure it should be ok, just want to make sure that this wont cause any problems at the interview.

This is wrong. Read the definition of household member and you'll find "aunt" doesn't qualify. The aunt provides an I-864 and cannot combine income with the primary sponsor. She'll need to qualify on her own.

All that matters is your residence the time of filing. Speculation on when or where you might leave that home can be kept to yourself.
