Hi,

I recently applied for I485. I received my biometrics appointment from USCIS for later this month. Which is great, since then I am a little closer to getting my EAD. But, along with the letter, it also said that background checks will be done.

My question is, what is exactly background check? I have been here for 10 years. I came in 2000 on a student visa. My visa expired in 2006. I got married in 2007 and I have been married since then. I have worked 4 years on and off and I have paid my taxes etc. I did not misrepresent myself since I had a SSN when working. When applying for I485, my lawyer had us get all the taxes and everything we paid since we got married, (last 3 years).

So, keeping all this in mind, what do they look for and when can I know that this process is over as long as I485 application goes?

Also, I have heard of creepy versions of FBI interviewing our friends and family etc? Does that happen? As in, does the FBI manually cross check phyiscal presence and history?

Sorry about being paranoid but I cant help :(

Thanks in advance!!

They look for anything and everything. To see if your lying or hiding or telling the truth.

EVERYONE is put in background checks its not just you.

Dont fret on it just put it in the back of your mind and wait for your interview notice. Once you get that the background checks are usually finished.

Edit- oh this is also not a family based visa you need to post in the other section because you came on a student visa.
