Humor and patience go a long way.

Vodka is up there somewhere too.

LOL!

If the first two start to get ragged, pour on number three.

I can get away with taking the bags of groceries into the kuxnya, but I better darned well get my butt back to the door and change right after. She doesn't yell, but I wish she would. "The Look" is worse than the ice at shrinking things.

Easy, it gets easier after she trains you in the proper ways.

Be careful what you wish for. Your ears will thank you.

I read part of this thread a couple of weeks ago and had a nice laugh thinking about a few times in Ukraine when I was reprimanded because I forgot to take off my shoes at the door.

Tonight while I was talking to my fiancee on Skype she saw me bend down and asked what I was doing. I told her I was taking off my shoes and the flood gates opened! After asking if this is normal (and me of course saying it is!), she says "I saw it in movies, but didn't think people really did it!"

Now she's worried about what other disgusting habits she will have to correct when she gets here. Whatever she may find, I will be happy to make the change when we can finally be together.

Thanks everyone for your posts!

 Nice one! You will both have some big adjustments to make. My grandmother called that (and the spirited discussion that comes with it) the spice of life. I take nexium now

Always remember that all these things we have here...they had them in the USSR also. In fact, THEY invented them and we copied. Well not everything.

We spent 23 billion $$$ in the 1960s space program to develop a pen that writes upside down in zero gravity. Russians used a pencil.

Alla does real well with English but last night we went to see the remake of "True Grit" and the combination of period language and accents completely threw her off and she says she did not understand more than 30% of the meanings of sentences.

It was a good movie, more true to the book and thankfully the Texas Ranger was NOT killed at the end (there was no need for that in the original movie even though it WAS Glen Campbell)

The guns were actually correct, if you can believe it. Set in 1880 the original had John Wayne using his favorite M1892 Winchester. In this one, Rooster uses a M1873

Alla is not a big fan of Westerns but I told her this one was different. She said...

"Do they all ride horses?" Yes. "Are there good guys and bad guys?" Yes. "Is there a woman?" Well, a girl, yes. "Uh-huh, and the good guys kill all the bad guys with guns, right?" Well, yeah.

Well, we went to see it anyway and I explained to her how it was more accurate than the original and the whole about M1873s and M1892s and she just....

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

RUB wives who haven't spent time in America will not understand why we don't remove our shoes.

One time in Odessa, at the 7th Kilometer Market, I was trying on shoes. (I always like to buy shoes when over there.) I sat down on the concrete to take my shoes off. Instantly everyone around me shouted in shock! All at once, they demanded I get up. Then, my friend explained, "OH AMEPIKANCKИ" ... which to the common Ukrainian basically means "he's an idiot." To which they all nodded and smiled in understanding.

After some time in the States, and becoming fluent in a precise language like English, her world will change.

Imagine, no longer having to aim for those holes in the ground!

last night we went to see the remake of "True Grit"

It was a good movie,

"Fill your hand you sonofabitch!"

I went and saw it with my dad for Christmas. He didn't know what to get me and I didn't know what to get him so I said, "let's go see that new True Grit movie." It was awesome to watch a western on the big screen together with him after watching so many at home. I think he felt like a kid again.

Not a great movie, and nowhere near as good as the "new" westerns like 3:10 to Yuma or Appaloosa, but a good movie all the same. Some of the changes I liked, some I didn't. Either way, there's absolutely NO WAY my wife would watch this whole movie. She would've been sitting down the hall in How Do You Know or already on her way home in a cab.

She did watch about 1/2 of Tombstone with me once.

"Is there a woman?" Well, a girl, yes.

The girl actually reminds me of a RUBber wife. She's headstrong and independent but when it comes right down to it, she needs a man and isn't afraid to use one (or two.)

Imagine a HOT RUB wife having a hissy fit in SIGN language....Russian sign language!

I've seen Korean girls going at it in sign language. Too funny!

RUB wives who haven't spent time in America will not understand why we don't remove our shoes.

Oh they'll understand... they just won't care.

Don't count on too many changes. Alla still freaks out at seeing people sitting on the ground or steps, unless it is sunbathing with a blanket underneath.

She thought there was something wrong with the toilet because it had water in it. After she tried it she really liked it and said, "I probably will not have to clean this toilet more than 1 time per day!"
