How long does it usually take USCIS to respond to congressman?

I've been calling the congressman atleast 3 times a day and he says he's still waiting for them to respond. How long does it take? I thought when a congressman calls about a case, they get faster response?

For our AOS application it was a week from when we first talked to the congressman's immigration liaison to having a response from the USCIS. The original email to the USCIS from the Congressman's staffer wasn't included so I don't know when she emailed, but we started talking to them on Monday and had an answer on Friday. Of course we were dealing with the NBC in Missouri, it may differ depending on the service center and their work load.

K-1:

January 28, 2009: NOA1

June 4, 2009: Interview - APPROVED!!!

October 11, 2009: Wedding

AOS:

December 23, 2009: NOA1!

January 22, 2010: Bogus RFE corrected through congressional inquiry "EAD waiting on biometrics only" Read about it here.

March 15, 2010: AOS interview - RFE for I-693 vaccination supplement - CS signed part 6!

March 27, 2010: Green Card recieved

ROC:

March 1, 2012: Mailed ROC package

March 7, 2012: Tracking says "notice left"...after a phone call to post office.

Yes the congress calls them and then has to wait for an answer then will contact you with the answer. Or you call them and they tell you it when they have it, generally a week from other people on VJ who had to do the same thing as you.

I had my congressman involved last Monday (11/1 a day after my 5 month mark). I talked to an immigration liaison and after she got my receipt # put me on hold and then proceeded to call somebody from USCIS (presumably her regular contact there). After 5 minutes she came back and informed me that my application was already sitting at an adjudicators desk (though I had known about this information already because I called USCIS the Friday before). 3 days later (11/4), my application was approved. On 11/5 I had gotten a correspondence from the liaison informing me the about the progress. Attached to her letter was her e-mail exchange between her and her contact stating that...you guys are going to love this...she (immigration contact) will talk to the supervisor of the section who was handling my case (somebody at VSC) and will have my case transferred to somebody else BECAUSE THE ADJUDICATOR THAT WAS IN CHARGE OF ADJUDICATING MY PAPERS WAS ON VACATION AND IS ON EXTENDED LEAVE!!! I'm so glad I had my congressman involved and they took prompt action on my case. Otherwise, my file would still be sitting while the adjudicator is on his stupid vacation.

So I don't know whether I'm just lucky but that's how long it took for them to respond to my congressman.

The congressman called, not me. He says he's waiting to hear back from them. Is that how it goes?

Yes. It depends what he asked and what the problem is. If it is just a status check it may be several days before they get back to him and it will usualy be a "check back in (30/60/90) days"

If there is a specific complaint or error, they may get a response while they are on the phone. It may also depend on the clout the congressman has and who he calls.

well good news....my congressman representative called me back today and it only took a day and a half :). The supervisor said that the officer working on my case was reassigned cases and that's the cause for delay. They also said that they will turn my case around within the next week or two and that there's nothing to be done on my case and its just waiting final review. Yeahh!!

Guess again. The USCIS works at their pace; no one can speed them up. No one.

Echo - Echo - No one will ever speed them up.. NOT even the Senator.. Calling 3+ times ago will do much of anothing but get to the clerk at the office.

I'm not even allowing the negative comments to steal my joy. I got more information on my case than either myself or my lawyer would've obtained by calling. Do you think it's just a coincidence that peoples cases are either approved or receive an RFE after a call from a congressman's office. It means something. I'm not a person to sit back and just wait when they are behind on their estimated time to process a petition, because while you're waiting and hoping, I'm being proactive.

they even told you there was nothing they could do and that it was awaiting final review...all you achieved in calling was for them to tell you that.

I am also waiting for response from congressman's liaison. Our initial inquiry took 4 days but now it has been 10 days with liaison. My congressman's office is very helpful and prompt. I think its the responsibility of liaison to get back to them so I don't want to bother congressman' office unnecessarily. But how long should I wait if I continue to not hear back? Should I ask him to check up on liaison again?
