My wife and I are sponsoring my stepdaughter (I-130)as an under 21 unmarried child. We are in the I-864/DS-230 part of the process with the NVC.

Assuming the apps get approved and she passes the interview I'm wanting to know what kind of green card she gets and when. Is it a temporary GC which needs an AOS at some point? Or is it a ten year GC?

Thanks!

If your wife is a citizen then her under 21 years old daughter will get an IR-2 visa valid for 10 years

I am not sure if your wife is a permanent resident, what would be the visa name and period

Whoops! I'm so sorry! I realized my mistake just now. She is over 21. (and yes, my wife became a citizen while the I-130 app was in process)

Well now it is different if she is over 21, it's called F1 Visa

F1 visa? F-1 visa is for students, not foreign children of USCitizens.

I think is IR-5 visa, maybe even IR-2 ...

F1 corresponds to the 'priority date type' not the visa type. These things are referenced as visa categories, as well, in the Monthly Visa Bulletin - so I can understand the confusion.

anyway -

once she arrives, it'll be a 10 year green card that she receives in the mail. No further processing past the POE required. Can apply for SSN after 2 weeks in country.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
