I was reading some guides in here and came across this:

[Does anyone know exactly what happens to this wad of papers in the brown envelope (after) the USCIS (INS) at POE goes through them?

A..It is sent to the USCIS (INS) district office closest to where you will reside, which will be the office handling your case once in the USA.

(NOTE: the envelope may "transit" through one of the Service Centers, but it will end up at your local office at some point in your adjustment of status process - i.e. when you apply to be a permanent resident) ]

So what if this paperwork somehow gets lost? Am I right to ask at the border if they can photocopy everything for me before they send it off? Has anyone here ever requested that?

I know...probably worrying for nothing...

your guess seems logical, not sure you will find a copy machine at the POE and not sure the CBP folks will let you handle the envelope they would not let you look inside either :)

No.

They don't give you a copy because you are not supposed to have a copy of most of that stuff in the files. A lot of it is what they add to your file which you arent even allowed to see.

You don't get a copy they do sent it on and it is there when you file AOS.

Best to just forget about it and deal with things if they come up later ie: lost medical or something.

Most of the Missing/lost issues seem to happen with the medical portion anyways not the whole file packet.

You aren't worrying for nothing. Ours got lost from POE to USCIS. No, they won't let you get a copy.

Good luck.

Most of the papers that are in the envelope are the forms that you filled out and mailed in during the whole visa process, so if you made copies of everything that you mailed in, you basically have everything already. At the POE, they will not copy the papers inside the envelope for you. They will just take it and mail in on. Like other posters said, forget about the envelope once you are at the POE. You have a long process of things to do when you are in the States, ie. your marriage, dmv, SS card, EAD, etc... better to focus on that and of course finally being with your SO.

Hope you have a smooth crossing,

It doesn't hurt to ask for a copy of the medical. Don't bother asking for the rest of the packet. You'll already have a copy of most of it, and the rest is just their notations. The Officer at my POE was kind enough to copy my entire medical for me because I told him about the AOS process and wondered if he wouldn't mind giving me a copy of the vaccination worksheet, "Just in case". But this is not the norm. As long as you're aware the answer is probably going to be no, you won't be disappointed. lol
