Using AP prior to Green Card

Carina (K-2) was just approved for her 2nd AP and we are planning a trip back to Moldova this summer. If her green card has not arrived by then do you think she may have a problem at the Moldova airport when departing back to the US? I know the AP will be ok for when she arrives back in the US, but what if the airport officials in Moldova give us a hard time without another visa for her, just the AP?

Any advice from others with experience using the AP would be much appreciated.

Thanks! Dave

Thanks to all for the guidance and support and speedy processing to all!

AP is a valid travel document. If they give her any problems, tell them to read the document...

My hubby just got back home from his home country using AP. He did have a bit of a time, just because the airport official were not familiar with this type of document. They did let him go with it, but he had to specifially point out the part where it's written that its valid for U.S. reentry. It took him an extra 20 minutes or so, and he said he had heard of others where they actually delayed them until after their flights left, so just make sure you are prepared for a bit of a delay.

I was actually told by one lady at the airline when I called that I may need to have him get a letter from the US consulate telling the airport officials exactly what he needed for his flight back home. I thought that was a bit ridiculous, since he HAD the documents that allowed him back home..and luckily I didnt have to go that far. So I guess in countries where airline officials are not familiar with it and its little seen, you just never know.

Once he got to the US, no problem. Weird hmmm? More of a problem leaving his own darned country.

It depends on the experience of the person checking the papers back in the other country.

I have travelled three times on my AP and returned through different countries each time (Mexico, UK, & Germany). In both Mexico and German there were no problems, and in the UK the airline rep asked a few more questions than normal and then took a photocopy for their records (took about 20 minutes).

The best approach is to allow a little extra time and to be patient. If there are problems with the first person be patient because they will eventually find someone who understands the AP letter and let you on the plane.
