The Midwest High Speed Rail Association has proposed linking Chicago and St. Louis in less than two hours via 220-mph bullet trains.

The very wide and straight Champaign-Chicago railroad right-of-way offers a unique opportunity to build a demonstration segment quickly, perhaps before California.

A study we commissioned found that hourly service with 500-seat trains would generate an operating surplus.

The line is projected to create 40,000 direct jobs and grow economies along the line up to 3 percent annually.

...

Missouri Governor Nixon supports the concept, and Governor Pat Quinn has called for superfast trains between Chicago and Champaign (what could be the first leg of this line). In June 2010, the U.S. Conference of Mayors, including Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, called for a 220-mph Midwest high speed rail network that would link Chicago, St. Louis, Minneapolis and Detroit. Mayors and county officials along the line also have endorsed this crucial project.

I'd probably make the trip to Chicago (from Detroit) 10 times a summer.

I've got a few friends that drive there at least once every other month.

I knew some people that when they were bored would make the 4 to 4.5 hour drive to Chicago just for a cup of coffee!!!

There's already a line that runs from Chicago to New Orleans but it's not a high speed train. It stops close to St Louis but not in St Louis. I think it's a good idea!

I wouldn't go to St. Louis. I have no one to Meet there.

(Y'all prolly a bit too young for that reference....)

I actually got it :P I (L) that movie!

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.
