No, Paul, it isn't. To make a valid claim that prices have risen significantly, you'd have to be in a time where that is actually occuring. the past year hasn't been that time. With the exception of 2009 which offered some corrections to the significant increases of 2008 (remember when gas was $4.00 a gallon and food prices went through the roof due to the higher cost of transporting them?), there hasn't been a time in this country in the last 5 decades where prices have risen as slowly as they have over the last year.

It's not to YOU. Pay attention. Statistics mean jack when you're on the low income scale.

Too-may-toe - Too-ma-toe

It's all relative. What's not 'significant' to you, very well might be to someone else. That's the point.

While $0.15 on a loaf of bread isn't a big deal, add that $0.20 to 30 items and that's $24 out of a low income individuals pocket. That's the difference in being able to fill your car up for a week to get to work. That IS significant.

Inflation is natural in any economic system. Especially when constrained by finite resources.

For the poor person in your example, the question is, does their income go up proportionally? Or has it stayed stagnant?

Inflation is one of the most unnatural things in economics. It's one of those things that is very much a cause/effect relationship. Inflation/deflation have everything to do with the value of currency, which happens depending on how much money is printed or reigned in by the Federal Reserve and then on top of that how much is invested into our currency based on this as well.

As we've seen from this economy, income hasn't gone up much for anyone and has been stagnant for the most part....

I'd suggest you pay attention to the actually matter discussed. Palin made avery broad claim that lacks substance. Having pointed out to her by a WSJ writer that she made a claim that lacks any substance, she referred to another WSJ article in support of her argument. Problem is that that other article doesn't support her claim either. She failed to grasp the substance of the matter - same as you.

I think more than likely, she failed to read the article beyond the first paragraph....
