hello everybody,

i trust you are all doing very good. something came to my atention just today. my car insurance is on my father's name because it gives us family discount price. i was worried that this could hurt my k1 case if i have anything on my father's name instead of my own. also my car loan is signed by my father, but i only co-signed it but it is my car for use. once again, because we get a discount. i read that the consulate may give problems because when they do a background check, they will see the your bills are showing up in somebody else's name.

i dont have any red flags like divorce or family introductions. i also front-loaded several trips to Viet Nam to meet my fiance so i think i am good. but do you think that having this with my car will be a problem, or should i worry about other things more? thank you everybody for your help :)

So far everything sounds alright. The consulate understands that parents help get loans and put kids (even older) on insurance for the discounts. Just make sure that you make enough income and that the bank statement for the last year and a letter from the bank looks good. They will want a letter from your company also stating the employment dates.

Not sure why the consulate would care about car loans and insurance because it doesn't show up in the application.

Whatever you do submit should be in your name, if possible. Like phone bills, plane ticket receipts,...

I think the issue here is not so much about what insurance or what car loans are being used, but instead the association to his father that could be a problem. In other words, if the billing address of your loan/insurance is showing your father's address instead of your own address, it could be a problem since your name is also on the insurance. There was a guy here a few months ago that got a blue slip for residence of the last 10 years because he had opened a P.O Box in his name years ago that he forgot about a long time ago. The P.O Box linked him to a different address then where he was claiming to really be living at in his petition. This Consulate is known to make a big deal about things that we consider to be trivial issues.

Having said that, I still would not lose sleep over this. Focus on getting ready for the interview and let things fall in place.
