Since we are discussing it....

How important is it that the USC go to the interview. I know she has to do the interview solo but does it help if I'm there (other than the obvious moral support). She's fluent in English so that's not a problem for her. We are going to be in China in February and I'm wondering if I need to start planning another trip back for the interview.

Thanks

Do I MUST be at the interview with her in Guangzhou? Is it a red flag if I'm not there? We've been in this relationship for

more than 5 years, so the visa officer would just assume that our relationship is not real because I didn't come for her

interview?

Thanks guys

Chris

I do not think it is a must but my case was pretty quick, lucky I guess.

I will tell my scenario, neither of us had been married before and we are an older couple, over 35. We met online and married 2 months later when I went to China for the first time. I had scheduled another trip to China at the end of December but they had scheduled my wife's interview mid December at which time she was approved. I did write one heck of an EOR letter stating that I wanted to be at the interview but with not having any vacation left and I had already booked my flight, I believe this helped our case.

I think it is dependant upon your case, if this is not your 1st marriage or you are aware of any potential red flags then your wife having your passport at the interview would be a big help and a moral boost for her.

Good luck!

I wonder if this means they will receive new letters indicating this. If so, the Friday interviews will appear on Thursday for fingerprints. With no change in the letter or any notification prior to interview day, they would be turning away half the people who arrive every morning and telling them to come back at 12:30 and then again the next day. I suspect the letters for those interview dates will indicate what to do and when to do it. If I'm right, then it is the Monday interviewees that will have a nice weekend waiting for their interviews.

We'll just have to wait and see if anybody gets a new letter or reports what actually happens.

I would take a look at some denied VISA application posts and the class action suit now in progress for HCMC not the same consulate, but some of the crazy situations could be avoided with careful planning. A couple examples, they asked the person who was the US Citizens bosses name, and to explain what the person did for a living. Also the name of the college that the US Citizen attended. There were also some problems not being able to articulate a well planned out marriage .. although the Embassy tells you not to make any plans until after the VISA is approved. Make sure they know where you live, your living situation and how to pronounce your city and name of the company you work for in English.

In Guangzhou, the closest the USC gets to the interview is the 4th floor while the interview is on 5. It's good to be in town for support but you cannot be part of the actual interview, like you can at some consulates.

Clears it up pretty well.

IMPORTANT information regarding preparation for your interview

As of Monday, December 6, 2010, Immigrant Visa (IV) applicants processing at Guangzhou will be required to go to the Consular Office on the date specified on the appointment letter for fingerprint and document intake. The applicant(s) will be required to return the following morning for their interview.

Fingerprinting and document intake Monday – Thursday: 12:30 – 14:30

Interview Tuesday –Friday: 07:30 – 09:30

Applicants will be given their Visa Appointment letter (containing their name(s) and Final Processing) with a stamp. The stamp will inform the applicant to return the following morning at 7:30am for their IV interview. The applicant must show this letter with the stamp showing the correct interview day’s date in order to be given access to the IV waiting room. RSO Security will need to verify this information before letting the applicant(s) into the IV area.

Yes, and in addition, they have effectively reduced their work load by 20%. Notice that there is no document intake on Friday, and subsequently no interviews on Mondays. Isn't nice how they cut back to a 4 day work week while getting paid for 5 days worth of work.
