It is however a need. Not a "want/desire", as you seem to believe.

health care is no more a need than a television is....

I know that's hard to grasp ahold of in this entitlement based society, but it's an ultimate want/desire to prolong your life.

I think by your definition then, there is no such thing as a need, correct?

So you can decide whether an appendectomy at that location is worth it or whether you should shop around?

Or so I can decide whether I'd rather live or pass that amount of money on. Rate sheets are key to an individual being able to make the right choice with his or her money.

There are 3 basic needs:

1) Eat

2) Breath

3) Evacuate Waste

If you can accomplish these 3 then you alive.

There are 3 basic rights:

1) Life, accomplished by the above listed needs.

2) Liberty, freedom to steer your future so long as it doesn't take from someone else.

3) Pursuit of Happiness, which is no promise of successfully obtaining it.

Health Care is a SERVICE. Something that people do for a living. It's not a right. You're not entitled to make someone do something for you. If you want it to be a 'right' you need to learn to heal yourself then, because that's the only way it is.

then you worked at a jacked up hospital.... Everywhere I've been, in both states I have lived in, pricing was really easy to obtain....

Then there's a lot of "jacked up hospitals" out there. Like I said, for simple things they can tell you the price.

But there's no way they will give you the price of something like major surgery ahead of time. They don't even know how much it will cost until they are done.

I'm sure if I go in to work tomorrow if I ask the first 20 medical staff members I see the price of a random procedure, they couldn't even give a ballpark figure.

What if it's a 9 yr. old with appendix that is about to rupture? Leave the decision up to the parents?

a 'need' is feeling presented when a lack of something is present.

A 'need' by its own definition is more for a lack of better words, an ultimate want/desire...

Those are wants, not needs. You could always just die. It's your choice. You choose to live, why should I have to pay for your choice? Go die already.

I pay for my own food.

The air I breath is free and unrestricted (where I live)

And finally, I have no choice but to evacuate waste as it will eventually overpower me and "self evacuate" at the most embarrassing time if I don't!
