I am reviewing the instructions for DCF in Ankara and it states If a sponsor was not required by law to file an income tax return, he/she should prepare a notarized statement. In this statement the sponsor should affirm that he/she was not required to file a tax return and give the related Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulation. My situation is that when I was in the states last year I worked for a short while but not enough to worry about filing. As per the above instructions, a notarized statement is required......(blah blah blah...)and I believe that I can simply state something right from the IRS website that helps one determine if they are required to file. I cannot find an actual "IRS REGULATION" per say OR is there one out there that I have overlooked?????? PLease HELP :help:

You can use/quote the form 1040 instructions stating that your worldwide income for 2009 was $xxx and that is below the required amount ($ 9350 for a single person, etc.).

Thank you for your reply.

For filing purposes and filing status, I am not sure if I would state that my world wide income for 2009 was $xxxx and that is below the required amount forA.- Married filing jointly or B.- Married filing separately ...which would be the correct status for me/us? I am unsure which one I would state. I am the US citizen and had a minimal amount of income while I was here in the states visiting in 2009... $3118.00 TO BE EXACT. Can I file as MARRIED FILING JOINTLY even though he residing here in the USA? Hope that this makes sense. I was preparing the statement and will need to have it notarized and I was concerned that if I am to state "Married filing jointly" not only would I need to sign but would he as well which is impossible as he is there (Turkey) and at the moment I am in the states getting documents and proofs of Domicile and will be returning back to turkey shortly to file DCF. :help:
