Good question as the reality is no one really cares as crime is a personal or localized problem and as long the bad guys don't come after me we can lock up the offenders for a few years and forget the whole sorry incident.

If it were my relative who was killed, I'd probably want the DP for the perpetrator - but that wouldn't be the best frame of mind to be making rational decisions.

People who kill others without any contributing factors deserve the DP, justice demands it.

I would say the same thing if it were my own brother.

Justice doesn't demand anything - it's an inanimate, abstract concept. That's why people frequently confuse it with personal revenge.

You are a very warped man..... glad I don't live in a country which embraces even a fraction of what you proscribe to.

The people demanding justice aren't personally connected to the victims or the perps so personal revenge doesn't factor in. Crimes are deemed against society as individuals aren't entitled to act as judge and jury but the state is. This prevents blood feuds, trial by combat and dueling as the previous methods of pbtaining justice.

Warped because I think justice and revenge are mutually exclusive?

 Whatever next...

I'm glad I no longer live in a country with not only massive crime rates, but some of the most horrific crimes in the western world and not forgetting the majority of the world's serial murderers ;)

It factors in the sense that people read a story like this and take it upon themselves to be judge, jury and executioner. Quite obvious really.
