It's funny how they change their tune after THEY get "spoiled" a little, eh?

Right. I do appreciate the radio silence sometimes, intstead of the everything-is-better-in-Ukraine channel. I don't think that station plays here any more.

That station's been silent for a while here too. Although, sometimes when there's lightning or solar flares or something it fires back up.

It would still be ok if I could identify the solar flares consistently. Best girlfriend is going to Ukraine in two weeks=flare (obviously), but watching an American movie, where a Russian acented actress appears in heels? Who can predict that?

If it is an Angelina Jolie movie, it is an even bet. Why does that cause a flare up of channel 1+1? Alla is proud of it..."Look how wonderful she looks...she is Russian, you can tell" Angelina is Russian?

Actually, Alla's friends tend to tell her the bad stuff, or so it would seem. She gets word that the economy is worse, etc. Donetsk is just crawling with prostitutes, or at least it was earlier this year. All "girls from the villages" becuse many of the mines shut down and the stell smelters closed. Makes for cleaner air but people in outlying areas lost their jobs. Actually Alla gets a bit depressed to see it and hear it and more happy she isn't still trying to make a living there.

I think that taking the word of other Russian speakers as gospel is pretty normal behaviour for an FSU gal. Fortunately it works in Gary's favor here.

I think my wife is in the same "bubble-headed best buddy" category as yours, Brad. However, what's cool with my wife is instead of taking that word as gospel she uses it as an example of what NOT to do. "See, she so stupid. I never will be do like her."

Not mine. I am constantly telling her "just like in Moscow" and she always replies, "No, sorry, this is better;"

That goes for just about everything, cheap clothes at Walmart, excellent foods not found there, road conditions (even for Illinois!), the local library or the hot showers and flush toilets at a state park campground. Virtually everything is better here......she says that about me, but I'm not too sure.....I let her keep trying to convince me

Why do I get the feeling that this um, "convincing" could go on for an indefinite time. B-)

Alla has commented on the cheap clothes (don't they all?) good roads and clean environment, something she really was shocked at and really appreciates. She had to check out the water in Lake Champlain...she was amazed it is crystal clear ("I can see my feet when I stand in the water!") and says it is the "best looking autumn anywhere!" One day when out walking she said "Look! A piece of trash! I found a piece of trash in the park!" She picked it up and took it to the trash can. Roads are great compared to Ukraine (OMG!) and the library is great and so is the hospital (but scarey expensive, she looks at those statements you get which have been sent to insurance compaines)

Her general impression is "lots of big pluses and a few small minuses"

She and Pasha are off to the USCIS office this morning for their biometrics for RoC. I don't have to go with her anymore, she knows where it is.

Funny how they go from being afraid of anything immigration related to "Meh...them again"

That's where my wife is now but boy did it take her a while to get there. When she first arrived everything was "so horrible" and now everything is "OK."

I heard the "horrible" word a lot also. Now I rarely hear it. She still thinks some of her teachers are wacked out! (she might be right) And she thinks Americans in general are very sloppy, dress poorly and look terrible. Vermont does not have a dress code that would change that opinion. Knappy haired white guys in "dress birkenstocks", ponytails...you get it. Women that dress like men (How can a man tell the difference?") People sit on the floor even. Pigs! When we were in Chicago or New York or Boston...even Montreal, she says how "normal" the people look.

My wife has been getting more and more down on Ukraine after the prices have skyrocketed over the last few years. It really is unbelievable to me how most people survive...but I guess many of them don't. It's pretty disheartening how disfunctional the economy is.

Wife's visa journey:

03/19/07: Initial mailing of I-129F.

07/07/11: U.S. Citizenship approved and Oath Ceremony!

MIL's visa journey:

07/26/11: Initial mailing of I-130.

05/22/12: Interview passed!
