So two old Bahbuskas are out in front of their apartment house, sweeping the sidewalk with brooms made of sticks and one says to the other...

Oy, my daughter. Such a wonderful girl! She is so beautiful! She has such a wonderful husband! A good man. He doesn't drink vodka and doesn't beat her. He has a good job and my lovely daughter can sleep until 10am and then wake up and do her makeup, then go out and go shopping, then she goes to school and studies. She doesn;t have to work! They have a woman that cleans the house for them so she can study. Her cares for her like she is a Princess!

My son? Oy, Poor, poor boy. He has a terrible wife! She is so beautiful she thinks she is a princess! She is so lazy she sleeps until 10 am and then just does her makeup goes shopping and to school. She doesn't even work! She won't clean the house and my poor poor son has to PAY another woman to come and clean their flat! No wonder he drinks vodka and beats her! I would drink and beat her myself!

This makes a lot of sense. Especially since my MIL has two daughters and no sons!

Gary, that is too funny.

My MIL really likes me a lot. She just sent me some books about growing flowers, in Russian of course. I still don't read much Russian. My MIL thinks I'm a wonderful man because I send money to her while her own son won't even call her and doesn't give her his phone number in Odessa. But then, listening to my wife describe the MIL, I can understand his position.

I like to tell the story of meeting with my (soon to be) mother in law just after Lena accepted my proposal. She gave me some little putzy gift and then proceeded to spout out words that I was sure were condemnation of me and my lineage. It was like listening to a fire breathing dragon describe how he was going to eat you. Then my stepson translated her fire and brimstone. From his mouth I am listening to words that can best be described as butterflies, spring weather and flowers. You can not convince me that his words were her words. I had eyes about the size of silver dollars listening to her.

My wife has said that I should thank my MIL. She has chased off numerous men over the years. I think that is why I didn't meet my mother in law right away. My wife didn't want her to scare me off too.

My MIL is also the head of the Econimcs faculty at a Chelyabinsk University, everything she says is with authority. Very nice and caring, but with a serious authorative tone.

It used to be that almost every time I would talk to Anna on Skype her mom would pop in the picture and tell Anna to tell me that we need to have a serious talk... Fortunetly that talk happened here in Alaska after the marriage. ;)

It drives Alla crazy. My MIL loves me and we have a great old time and Alla is always "guilty" "Gary is too thin...Alla you need to feed him more, what is wrong with you?" "Gary is gaining weight...Alla, you feed him too much" Sergey visited her before going back to school and she called Alla one afternoon..."Alla, it is 10 pm here and Sergey is not home yet" He is 19 Momma. Her mother is a former district supervisor of engineers (civil) so she is very detail oriented, borderline obsessive compulsive about cleaning and thinks you should be working or doing something from the time you wake up until you go to bed...especially if you are a woman, but a man needs "rest". B-)

We get along great. But I see this exact thing in Alla now that Sergey has a girlfriend and she is NO WAY good enough, beautiful enough, clever enough...poor girl. I like her, she seems nice, speaks fair English. She isn't at all bad looking, not drop dead gorgeous, but pretty.

Gary,

Do you seriously think any woman is going to be good enough for Alla's son? You should hear Lena berate the Russian speaking girls that her son, Andrii hangs out with. This one is either not pretty enough or too stupid or a #######, whatever she feels inclined to say, but just between me and her. As far as I'm concerned, the kid just needs to keep it in his pants before he gets in trouble.

I still haven't met my MIL.

I'm wondering what it'll be like.

I "discovered" Russian girls when I was 20. I can only imagine chasing them around at 15 or 16. Wow. I'd probably be a grandpa by now.

Nope. She has already told me so. Poor Daria. And Daria is just a ####### and not too beautiful, not too clever, a simple girl from a village in the Urals (OMG what are you thinking Sergey!) and she just wants a green card and she is only interested because Sergey is an LPR, etc. Y'know, she is one of THOSE girls. Alla is all over Sergey about not making babies yet!

I shut her up by saing "Yeah...Sergey needs to come back here and marry a woodchuck woman." NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, OH NO! NOT THAT! Gospity, Bozhia Moy!

Ohh my MIL, in our first meeting I got to know 3 different Ukrainian hospitals, thanks to her. On our last meeting she made a surprise appointment at a "beauty" clinic to delete with laser a pimple I did not know I had. I have a long list here.

My MIL backed me into the kitchen and was looking carefully at my eyes saying something was wrong with them. I should have them checked, it was probably my kidneys causing it! (no, they weren't yellow)

Laser blasting pimples! Good one!

Brad, dont get me wrong, she has never said a bad word about me, ever! She thinks i am GOLD. "In one day he fixes what I could not get fixed in 12 years!" she tells all her friends about her wonderful "son". She was concerned about my health and was saying that something about my eyes indicated some sort of serious health problem. Like I haven't been checked out enough in the last year. To hell with medical tests, you need to pass inspection from a Ukrainian MIL

NO, No, Brad, she was beng very caring about me...over whelmingly so!

I wouldn't say those things are always unrelated, but in our case it has more to do with her daughter's relative happiness. I would bet that is also true for Gary - as he seems to be the honeydo king. Please don't misunderstand, Vika's mom was not thrilled that Vika was moving so far away, but so long as she reports to the mother ship (see what I did there? - I am so clever  ) that she is happy, and made the right decision - the world is good.
