I Remember back in 2008 when I went to Yoshkar Ola from Moscow and back.

My (now ex) GF was traveling with me (we both live in the US) and it was a very pleasant experience I wouldn't hesitate to do again. The Mari El train is actually pretty nice compared to some I've heard about. And thankfully we had good roomies both ways too.

I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was.

but MIL is terrified! Haven't seen her here yet either

:) My MIL is terrified too. I discover it in our first meeting. I was in the living room watching the news, they show a plane crash that just happen in Brazil, she enters the room and I point out the breaking news, she started to scream and cry. I had no idea what to do, then came my fiance and FIL to calm her. After that she made sure to mention lots of time how she fear flying and planes. She wanted me to promise her, that I will never make her son cross the Atlantic on a plane.

I hear the train schedule between Eastern Europe and America can be erratic.

Hmm maybe i was on an especially good train but when i traveled from Kyiv to Chernivtsi I really enjoyed it. My wife and i had a room to ourselves. I slept most of the time though so maybe that was it. The restroom was interesting, you could see the ground and train tracks from the bottom of the toilet! No wonder i didn't see many people walking on the tracks. I prefer a 12 hour train ride over a 12 hour car ride with all those horrible roads and crazy drivers. :help:
