Hey everyone, my husband and I arrived at Chicago yesterday. What do I do now in regards to his whole visa process?? He came here on an cr1 visa. How do we get a SSN? What exactly do I have to do in the 90 day period they gave us?? Im confused! I will post POE details when I get some rest! Thanks

Should not have been given a 90 day period.... did you fill out an I-94? if so you should not have...

Did they give you the one year stamp in your passport?

What did you "tick" on the DS-230 regarding automatic issuance of the SSN?

Hmm 90 days, are you thinking of a k-1 visa?

If you checked yes on the ds230 form for the ssn then you sit and wait to see if it comes. If you ticked no on the ds230 for the ssn then you wait 10-14 days then go to your local ssn office and apply in person.

In my recent experience, we were confused as to how and when my husband would get his SSN so we went to the SS Office and they told us that if one didn't come in the mail in 90 days, to come back to the office and get one there..

The steps we took after POE were:

-Add husband to my existing American bank account.

-Wait for SS card

-SS card has wrong name on it. Doh. Go to SS Office.

-Give SS number to bank.

-Apply for CA state ID card at DMV.

-Permanent residency card (w/conditions) arrives in the mail - score!

Now we wait the 2 years to do AOS!

10-25-07: Met in Tokyo at a party

11-01-07: I like you. Do you like me? Let's get together!

04-??-08: Moved in together

09-??-08: He proposed!

03-08-10: Got married in Tokyo at the ward office (just the two of us)

03-22-10: I-130 appointment in Tokyo

04-14-10: I-130 cleared, received letter in mail

06-07-10: Final interview... Approved!

06-08-10: CR-1 Visa and mysterious brown envelope of power received... they are fast!

09-30-10: POE at LAX. That official sure was rude!

10-20-10: Received Permanent Residency card (w/conditions).

10-30-10: Wedding in front of family and friends in Los Angeles

11-15-10: Moved to San Francisco

07-??-12: Applied to remove conditions on green card

12-27-12: Moved to Los Angeles

03-07-13: ROC approved!

CR1 people will do Removal of Condition (ROC), not AOS, after 21 months, but before 24 months of the POE.

There is no I-94 (arrival departure card) concept for immigrant visa (IR1 or CR1) holders.

SSN - Typically few weeks to 1 month or so (If ticked yes in DS-230). If you feel it is not coming within the timeframe, visit SSA office and apply one.

Welcome Letter & GC - Typically 4 to 8 weeks. If 8 weeks are elapsed, talk to USCIS or open an Infopass.

I ticked on the ds230 i didnt want or need another card as Id already got one. I ticked incorrectly you think?

All the documents should arrive at my wifes tomorrow. And we're getting on the case of the NVC - and senator. So I dont know if my wife will have to send all the documents back to me if our case is expedited! :bonk:
