We sent off our i-130 this week to be processed and in the questions that were not relevant like my alien registration number we left blank spaces.

but ive just read online that we had to put none or n/a

is this going to effect our processing? what happens if it does? do they send it all back?

please help

thanks

Honestly, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

The issues depend on WHAT you left blank. Sometimes they might assume leaving it blank means "none", though really they're not supposed to "assume" anything, so.. luck of the draw. They might reject it and get you to finish the form, the might process it no problem, just wait and see.

if they do reject it. what happens? do they contact us and send the packet back?

please elaborate.

No contact, they could send the package back. Sometimes with the cheque, sometimes without. They might RFE you for a complete form and not reject the entire package. Usually it's got red pen notes all over it or on bits of it.

Nothing really to stress about, you won't be denied, they'll just tell you to fix it.

why wouldn't they send the cheque back? would we have to send a new cheque?

how soon should we hear from them if we've made errors?

whats RFE?

No you wouldn't need to send a new cheque. Basically when the file arrives at USCIS someone checks the file quickly to make sure the paperwork is there, puts it in the "proper" folder and mails off the cheque to get it cashed. THEN the file goes off to someone who actually reads the file. Sometimes they might catch the errors before the cheque gets sent for banking, sometimes they don't.

If the "reject" it you should get the cheque back.

If you get an RFE it's usually AFTER they've issued the NOA1 (which is also basically a receipt for the cheque). An RFE is a "request for further evidence". Sometimes this will also say "request for initial evidence" meaning that you forgot to include something that was needed initially, "further evidence" means they need more info on top of the stuff you've already sent (like perhaps you didn't include all tax info or a full medical etc).
