I-130 question

Dear Vjers,

My spouse is a 'Naturalized' citizen. With I-130 we sent a copy of the naturalization certificate, US passport copy also. We did not include my spouse's birth certificate (born outside USA). My question is that okay, or do we need to send my spouse's birth certificate also with the I-130? I have have not read anyone doing that (i.e. for naturalized citizens).

Yes, you are okay. You need to prove that the petitioner is a USC, which you did. Good luck!

The passport alone would have been sufficient.

Just for future reference: it's nobody's business if your spouse is a US citizen by birth or by naturalization, thus the Certificate of Naturalization should remain in the safe.

A copy of the passport is sufficient proof of US citizenship. However, the petitioner does have to declare how they acquired their citizenship on the I-130. If by naturalization, they do have to provide their certificate number and date/place of issuance.

For most things, like registering to vote, you are correct - it's none of their business how you acquired your citizenship. It's different with USCIS - it is their business to know, and you do have to tell them.
