Every day there is something....

I am trying to register my marital status in Romania, and it turns out that the marriage license office (in Romania) would not accept Certified true copy + Apostille of the marriage certificate in order to release the romanian certificate. They want original only!!! FL does NOT issue the original certificate! I spoke with a supervisor and also called the Sec. State; same thing! The original stays at the city hall :bonk:

Now what...?!?

Suggestions...anybody?! Maybe similar cases here?

juliava, the passport it's not the problem. A married citizen has to register the marriage in his/her country too! I can't be married in the US and not married in Romania! Plus I really like my new name

In which state did you get married? Some states give the original certificate(NY,CT,MA)

try the court they may advice you. I had huge headache to register my divorce from US TO BE RECOGNIZED IN rOMANIA. as far as your mariage certificate if it is issued by the same place it should be valid. where are you with NOA 2 ? we had a touch a couple a days ago but nothing so far.

I'm wondering why i am not surprised...that's Romania-"the land of choice"-as their slogan says.

they need to get off their asses(pardon my french)and start doing their job for what they are payd for, and find soulutions and not just"sorry we can't do it". there are two different systems and they need to figure out a way to work around it.

good luck

I think this should be organized better with the support of the romanian diplomacy in the us. They get the big $$$ and they don't even bother picking up the phone!! :ranting: Oh, well....nothing new....

It was the same with a friend from Bosnia - she could never (so far) register her marriage in Bosnia - they kept asking for the original and the person who apostilled the paper had to be the same one who signed the certificate which is impossible. I believe she ended up not doing anything with Bosnian authorities or consulate.

I got married in VA and I don't believe that any states would issue an original marriage certificate to anybody (including the president). I saw that you were wondering why. It's simple : nobody in this country needs your original, every single institution operates by using a certified copy only and IT WORKS THAT WAY. And by the way, the original has your SSN and that can not go public.

If our folks in our country can not get their act together and can't think outside the box - that's not a reason to turn around and blame the American system. It was here before us.

If you have changed your name already, and you want your passport to have your married name - yes, you have to go through that mess and declare your marriage in Romania.

Other than that, YES, you CAN be married in US and NOT in Romania, I don't quite see the disadvantages and the implications. You are STILL married.

Married is married. If there's no problem changing the name in your passport then there's no problem, period.

*Juliava,

"If you have changed your name already, and you want your passport to have your married name - yes, you have to go through that mess and declare your marriage in Romania.

Other than that, YES, you CAN be married in US and NOT in Romania, I don't quite see the disadvantages and the implications. You are STILL married. "

I AM TRYING TO CHANGE IT!Can't just change that by myself, I am a romanian citizen so only the romanian authoryties can do that!In order to do so, you first need to register, than based on a romanian document/marriage certificate you can have your name changed, the spouse can be romanian, german or chinese for that matter, it's still the same thing!

I think that both diplomatic parties should reach an agreement to make this easier for mixed marriages to file their paperwork!! That's all!

And just so you know,to declare/register your marital status it's not an option, it's mandatory within 6 months! And weather or not you want to change your name you still need the original marriage certificate! Any chages have to be registered, changes in name, marital status etc. So there are a few implications!

I am just curious, when you filed for the CR1 what name did you use? Which name will be on your resident card? Maiden or your husband's?
