I am filing my I-130 in 2 weeks and will also be chnaging my name at the same time. Will that cause a problem? I assume I should be using my current last name (family name) which happens to be from a previous marriage? But then by the time we get to the I-485 and I-864 my last name will have been changed legally to my new married name. Any idea if that will be a problem?

Hi there, I changed my name to my married name and filed my I-130 application under my Married name, making sure I sent in photo copies of the change of name cert etc with my application. I think it looks more favourably on you if you do oficially change your name because its just one more peice of info to show your relationship is legit. Just make sure you change over other things aswell like your drivers licence, passport, bank details etc. And ofcourse make sure you fill in your maiden name in the I-130 section which asks you to report previous names.

04/05/10: I-130 package mailed

04/14/10: Receipt Date

09/28/10: Approval Date

NOA2 to NVC - 12 days

NVC

10/10/10: NVC Case# generated

10/18/10: IIN Received

10/28/10: Emailed DS-3020

11/06/10: AOS fee PAID,

11/09/10: DS-3020 email is accepted by NVC

11/13/10: IV fee PAID,
