I have a couple of friends in Wisconsin. One not so far from Madison, the other one 5 to 6 hours further to the Michigan border. They both can tell me the joy of the winters over there. Especially last winter seems to have been fun. I didn't realize this about the Wisconsin laws. My friend, close to the Michigan border, is married to a Native American. How does this work? Seems that the Indians have their own laws....

I ones had to drive to my friend at the Michigan border, to pick up a dog, we bought. Very interesting drive. When coming from the East Coast, everything seems to slow down starting half way PA. In Ohio, you see cops on the highway, checking on speed, every mile or so. You wonder why. Once in Indiana nobody cares anymore. Then of course you feel the city life of Chicago again. Everything speeds up. Entering Wisconsin.... zzzzzzzzz.... slow again and again for hours. Close to my friend, I had to pass a long sand path through the woods. Nothing to see, and the path didn't stop, it kept on going straight for 7 mile. No cell zones, no cars, no people, nothing. The GPS only shows a tin line between a lot of green. We were joking about the possible bears, when the car would break down and what to do then. At the end of that path, all of a sudden, Indian Territory. I didn't know what to expect but it was all very American, LOL... yellow school buses and everything else included. Very nice people.

We live close to Wazze Lake, one of the cleanest lakes in the world, the Sparta Bike Trail, another world wide attraction, the Iola Car show, largest in the nation, the EAA show, really a world wide attraction, Rib Mountain for skiing, plenty of ATV and snowmobile trails, so there are things to do. Wife was a bit apprehensive at first, a city girl, but now she loves it. When we had down to Milwaukee or Chicago on a weekend, traffic jams are headed north, and on our return, the traffic jams are headed south. I use to be in those traffic jams, but said, why not just move up here.

Yeah, with the USCIS you get the feeling how a microbe feels under a microscope, but they don't want to see you, just your papers. Was born in Illinois so don't have that restriction on copying my birth certificate, that they just get a copy of. But with my kids born here, would have to buy a certified copy or face that fine if caught. Have heard that they don't really fine people for getting married out of state, just give them the opportunity to get married here.
