NVC Review-Time Update

The NVC (National Visa Center) apparently rolled out a new review process in October 2010. I was told that instead of cases taking 6-8 weeks to be reviewed, they should now take 2-4 weeks.

Cases that were currently in the pipe during the shift to the new system are being reviewed by supervisors.

My case was at 7 weeks, from the 6-8 weeks process. So I pressed the issue and the guy talked to the supervisor handling my case; he said to check back next Friday. I'm not sure if that's because my case had one week 'left', or if it's because they're fast-tracking all cases that were in the old pipeline. I had specifically asked if my case would take one week to finish (per the 6-8 week timeline) or have to go through the new, 2-4 week process.

Where did you read about this new review process taking only 2-4 weeks?

Glad to hear they're speeding up the process.

This is coming from 3 NVC workers I've talked to on the phone.

First, one of them mentioned it offhand, but didn't really explain it.

Second, someone explained it, but not very well, and noted that it'd been introduced in October.

Third, I finally asked for more specifics to find out how long my case would take, and he mentioned the supervisor's working on cases in the pipe.

Hi! :help:

Erm my case has just hit 12 weeks... What would that new system mean to me? Do you think I should call and ask about anything?

Thanks!

Kat

Hey Sufrank!

Have you been calling them? How could you get them on the phone? I have been trying and the phone never works!

COuld you give the number that you are calling pls?

Also, they requested to send my Birth Certificate to finalize my process(i think they lost as Im sure we sent it) and it was sent on October 15, since there I havent heard from them...If you are saying that they are taking 2-4 weeks, I should receive some feedback this week, am I right?

Thanks for your help.

I always dial 1-603-334-0700. You need to stay on the line and redial for about 5 minutes usually before you get through. So, the busy signal doesn't mean the system is broken - just they can't handle the volume or something. Be patient, and redial like mad (it's obnoxious, but works).

You'll want to hit 2-1-5 on the automated menu's.

2 -> Not a Haiti related case

1 -> Help in English

5 -> You want to speak to an operator

They'll ask you for:

1. Case Number

2. Beneficiary's Name / DOB

3. Petitioner's Name / DOB

4. Phone Number

5. Petitioner's E-mail

6. Beneficiary's E-mail

Please note that I call them so often I would immediately run those off once someone picked up. Most of the time they find it funny and almost appreciate it, but I got one guy who was super, super annoyed. In the vein of NEVER making the USCIS/NVC annoyed with you - I suggest that you prepare the info, but wait for them to ask :)

Also, I simply don't know when you'll get a response from them. I know they changed their process, supposedly to be faster, but beyond that I can't comment on their work :)
