This was my thought exactly after thinking it over...that we'd be able to still attend the interview, but just be delayed getting the visa due to this situation. I'm still sickened over it.

I would find a way to demand payment from the school to cover the cost of this. THEY lost it, not him. See if there is a waiver he signed when giving the passport to them in the first place, and if not they can be held financially responsible for the loss. (saving money is always good considering this process is so expensive!)

I will be keeping you in my prayers! I would be going to every person in the school first as you wait on everything else. Another issue with the old passport would be that all your forms are filled out with his current passport info on it, and if they use that one and a week later put a visa in that one-then there will be probs when he tries to use it when coming here. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers as my fiance has his interview on the 19th in Lagos. Good luck!! Hope to hear good news soon!

Please remain calm, and everything will work out.

BTW, did you make a copy of the valuable passport and keep it in a safe place?

Sometimes a copy can be as good as an original in certain cases, or at least better than nothing.

We always make a copy of the vaunted Green Card when it is received, and place the original in a safe place.

Take care, and we are here for you!

HI GUYS!!!! Sorry I am just catching up to your posts. Marcel is on his way to the school again right now and trying to see if they found his documents. He told me they not only lost the passport, but there is some tax they have to pay and they lost the paper that goes with that. They lost a form he had filled out to get the stamp for his resident permit. Oh, I think they also lost his student letter he needed along with his entry and exiting stamps. I didn't know that there were these other things with it. What a mess.

Now Marcel is saying this old passport is still valid. I'm calling the Nigerian Embassy here in the states as I think it will be easier to communicate with someone. Also, we do have a scanned copy of the entire passport. I made him make a copy of it. That may work too. I ironically have that in front of me now because I needed to print a copy of his biographic page. I will ask about that being a possibility.

Thank you also for suggesting the school cover the cost of replacing the passport. I told him when he gets what he needs from the school and I come next weekend, we are going tot he school and I m going to speak to someone. I am like a pit bull and won't give up easily. lol

I will let you know how I make out on the phone later with the embassy....I do feel better than I did on Friday. I tell you it felt like getting kicked in the stomach. Never do I want that feeling again.

Good night everyone...

When a passport is reported stolen is in usually invalidated in the system and flagged as stolen. Do not assume that because you have it in your hands that it is valid. It might even show up as stolen when scanned ( stolen passport data is shared post 9-11 ) and cause even more headaches. Maybe he could get it reactivated

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

NO, no, no...I'm not assuming it is valid just because Marcel thinks it may be. I am waiting until the Nigerian Embassy opens up here in the states. I tried the one in Lagos and I can't get through.

I did just get off the phone with the US Embassy in Cyprus and they stated that I can bring the scanned passport and all pages which will show his old resident permit and also a letter from the school stating that he has been a student there as a legal resident since 2008 and that they had lost his passport. So that part will be fine, now it is the bigger issue of his actual passport.
