hello VJ's

I need to ask if once you report your marriage here in the US will it be automatically registered in the Philippine NSO? If yes, does it mean that the person can get a certificate of marriage (CEMAR) in the Philippines or does s/he needs to register his/ her marriage in the Philippines personally to be able to get a CEMAR.

thanks for the Help! God Bless

Marriages here in the US should be registered to the nearest Philippine Embassy/Consulate near you. Look up for the Philippine embassy website... it gives all the information on how to register your marriage to Philippine records.

Marriages here in the US should be registered to the nearest Philippine Embassy/Consulate near you. Look up for the Philippine embassy website... it gives all the information on how to register your marriage to Philippine records.

The marriage has to be reported to the PH Consulate/Embassy that has jurisdiction over the area/state where the marriage took place (not necessarily the PH Embassy/Consulate nearest you since the state where you got married may not be where you are currently residing).

http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/index.php?page=consular-services-dc/faq-dc/#marriage

Depending on the PH Consulate, you can get your copy of the ROM either in person or by mail/courier.

It takes a while for the NSO to receive the ROM. On other PH embassy websites, it says that it takes three months (from the time the ROM application is submitted to the embassy) before the NSO-certified Marriage Contract becomes available for request at the NSO.

Since ROM to the RP is not required, why bother with the time and expense? If you report it to the Phil and later divorce, that could really put the damper on your spouse ever immigrating here again. Perhaps you divorce amicably. Would you really want them to have put their next fiance' through the expense and time involved in obtaining an anulment recognized in the Phil? OTOH, perhaps this is something you may not have a problem with, especially if the divorce is not amicable. Just a thought...

This question is actually for my friend. They had a civil wedding here and wanted to have a traditional church wedding in the Philippines. One of the requirements for their church wedding is the CEMAR from NSO. She asks, if she will do the ROM will it be automatically registered in the Philippines NSO. :)

Thanks for sharing your thought...

Just a thought in case you ever want to have yopur Philippine Passport in your married name...The Report Of Marriage is a must for this. Why not report. The Groom in the USA will be reported no matter what from the marriage license why should the Bride have the option of not reporting to her country and the Groom not have the option if for some reason he wanted it not reported in USA records?

Many of you are so one way here on this site and want to give all doubt and advantages to the Brides or fiancees. Who earns the money and pays all the expenses for this journey?? :ranting:

  • 1 year later...

I am going through this process to report our marriage in the Philippine embassy. We are sending it through mail from overseas, notarizing each 4 copies of the report of marriage will cost a lot and I wanted to make sure we answered them right.

The question about our current address, shall we put our physical address here or mailing address? Also as I am a dual citizen, I wonder if it is acceptable that instead of a philippine birth certificate I submit a copy of my report of birth?

Thank you. Any insight will greatly help!
