That's an odd policy that you need a caregiver there 24/7 at the hospital...I work at a pediatric hospital and that's unheard of...most of the time we're trying to convince parents to GO HOME and get a decent night's sleep!

Redneck;

Our son (who is a US Citizen by Birth) was living with my wife (his mom) in Colombia while we went through the immigration process. He suffers from respiratory problems and I needed to get him the medical attention he needed here in the States. But in order to do that, I required my wife's help to tend to him while I worked, since I was the only source of income for our family at the time (hence my request for the expedite).

Unfortunately my request to USCIS was denied, but a week after that blow, we received the NOA-1 anyway from USCIS. I requested an expedite through NVC by showing them tons of documentation of the multiple hospital stays both here in the states and in Colombia. My request was approved almost immediately and once NVC was done, The US Embassy in Bogota contacted my wife immediately for our interview.

Even after our interview (where we lasted 30 days in AP), we needed to get the I-212 here in the states and I was fortunate enough to have that expedited (30 days to be precise). Be ready to offer them the documentation required to prove your situation and you should be fine. You'll want to contact the US Embassy in Montreal once NVC speeds your case along and advise them that you need to have your interview a.s.a.p. due to the medical emergency in your family.

Good Luck.

I don't mind at all.

  1. I requested the Expedite on 6/17/09
  2. NVC receueved Our Case on 6/19/09
  3. Paid our fees by 6/20/09
  4. Requested the Expedite again on 6/24/09
  5. Received responce from NVC on 6/30/09 stating to direct all questions to US Embassy in Bogota as they now had the file
  6. My wife recieves call from US Embassy on 7/1/09 to set up appointment on for 7/06/09
  7. Put on AP on 7/06/09
  8. Got Off AP on 8/06/09 (but have to File I-212 with local USCIS Office in Miami).
  9. Filed I-212 on 8/19/09
  10. Received NOA from USCIS on 8/20/10
  11. Received Notice of Return and Denial on 9/10/10
  12. Made an Info pass on 9/17/10. Went in and fought the good fight for 3 hours and walked out of that office the

approval notice.

Hope this helps.

thats great thank you. you got through NVC really quick. They got our file on Oct 27 and our expedite request was forwarded to london on nov 3rd so hopefully we will hear something soon.

Did you complete the nvc process at the nvc or did it finish off at the embassy, so to speak before the interview?

I see you had to do the waiver too - thats for inadmissability right? I'll have to do an i601 too, for an overstay, Im wondering if all goes well, they may get me to file that at a local office too

no word yet then? to be honest, if i was in your shoes mate i'd give them a shout yourself. I know they cant tell you anything - but its kind of showing willing or annoyance, delete whichever you prefer. I made no end of calls - as our cased was deemed urgent. Yours is similar - let themknow your wife will call as soon as she is able to.

Get them to review the case, bring it up on the screen and break it all down to your wife so she knows all the activity on your case. Half the time we got nothing, when we spoke to a decent T2 - they sat and reviewed it and took their time.

On the flip side, I called the NVC - some chinless wonder there who took our expedite request said 'yes, its fine to email and email supporting documents as attachments'. which we did. twice.

Today i called to check on our status - no IIN number as yet, no big deal, but the operator said 'yes the expedite request was sent to london on the 3rd - call back in a week or two and dont send attachments'

#######! My concern is do they have 'similar types' to the uscis at the nvc??

Expedite is for a reason - call back in a week or two?? Or is it best to wait until someones dead before I call back!! :bonk:

Apparently they only take in requests for expedite at London - and if approved then supporting docs are sent there. How do they know if its an urgent situation without reviewing said documents.

So, I have a better idea instead of calling in 2 weeks - I'll call on Monday evening GMT

While I appreciate that emotions run high under certain circumstances, it is never appropriate to make personal attacks or use foul language in the Immigration forums, regardless of perceived provocation. These are Terms of Service (TOS) violations, and a number of such posts have been removed. If someone says something that you see is a personal attack, then report it to the moderators - don't respond in kind. This is an official warning. Any further such unacceptable outbursts will result in administrative action.

I am returning the acceptable parts of the removed posts to the thread below with the insults or provocative comments edited out:

jill if i'm ever in that situation that is something i'll keep in mind because i do know when i've come home from hospital and only had my child to help me it has been very difficult so you are correct on the fact that a helping hand at home when there are no nursing staff on hand to do everything is a necessity.

USA is much different than other countries where govt provides home health care. we are on our own here to provide for our loved ones.... and it's amazing how people scatter like roaches when the light is flipped on when someone is sick and needs care. ooh, but they all seem to reappear when you recover, usually with their hands out

For me I could have done something part time or found a way to have been there more when he was home than in the hospital. In MY situation it would have been better.

I know what it is to be a full time care giver. I KNOW how hard it is and I KNOW what it is like to have to try and make those decisions, to deal with what goes through your head, and to try and come out a better person. There was a time I actually physically went after a nurse for treating my ex like ####### because she was annoyed with me "questioning her authority", so she treated him badly. Good thing for her there was another nurse who got in the way or I would have been in jail over it and she would have been in an ICU bed herself.

That is why I spent a few minutes of my day trying to offer solid advice for you and your family. It's unfortunate it is not something that will help.

I still will keep my fingers crossed that your step-daughter comes out of this on top and the temporary hardship this will place on everyone goes as smoothly as possible.

All I asked was for advice on expediting through NVC process into the Consulate interview. As for all those medical records, we sent multiple treatments, list of medications, life expectancy..all sorts of (word deleted). I treated it as if we were sending an insurance claim in for medical necessity.

No, no word today, wife hasn't called yet. She worked today...she should be calling soon to see.

I'm calm and cool..but don't add unnecessary information that doesn't help.

Thanks for the extra info Boca. hopefully we'll have an answer on our expedite here in the next two hours...it's 5:40 pm EST ...for whom the bell tolls..

Nov 1..NVC....move over and make room. The (deleted) is coming. .

Bocajr27...what do you mean by AP? there for 30 days?

Redneck;

When we went to our interview, we were placed in Administrative Processing (AKA A.P.) which lasted 30 days. I belive this is because they needed to make sure my wife did not have any ineligebilities that prevented her from receiving a visa.

Good Luck
