Hi

What is the next step after a visa is obtained? My wife has a CR-1 visa.

I have read about the conditional status, but what about social security number?

"If your relative is your wife or husband and you have been married for less then 2 years at the time of his/her arrival at a port of entry, then he/she will receive a temporary I-551 Stamp and then later a Green Card by mail good for only 2 years. Ninety days before the green card expires you will have to file an I-751 form to remove it's conditional status."

I did answer Yes to the following question on the DS-230.

"Do you want the Social Security Administration to assign you an SSN (and issue a card) or issue you a new card (if you have an SSN)? You must answer "Yes" to this question and to the "Consent To Disclosure" in order to receive an SSN and/or card."

Take care of and local requirement for leaving the country: CFO stamp, exit clearance, etc.

Make travel plans to the U.S.

Arrive in the U.S. and process through the POE.

Wait for your Social Security Card and "Green Card" to arrive in the mail.

SS typically takes 2-3 week and "Green Card" typically takes 4-6 weeks.

If you don't receive your SS card in a timely manner, visit the local SSA office and fill out an SS-5 to apply for an SSN.

At the 21 month point, submit the proper documents to file for removal of conditions and receive a 10 year "Green Card"

At least those are the plans that my wife and I have once she gets her visa. :thumbs::innocent:

11/26/20: Check cashed

11/27/10: NOA1 Hardcopy received via USPS

12/21/10: Interview/Personal appearance at Manila Embassy for CRBA **approved**

01/03/11: CRBA and US Passport for daughter received by Gina via FEDEX

This is exactly we are also planning, except few additions.

After she and daughter arrive here, enroll them in a health insurance plan.

Since it is winter time, buy some winter protection dress as soon as possible.

Also we are moving to a new home as well. So, I'll file I-865 and my wife will file AR-11.

We have tons of files (Thanks to USCIS and NVC!), so it has to be safely buried somewhere.
