Not sure if this wil help but since you are in NYC call Avianca Air, see what it costs to fly to Bogota , www.avianca.com and then on to Peru from Bogota. Last summer I went to Bogota then wanted to visit friends in Buenos Aires, from here, Las Vegas, it was over $2200 RT. I flew to Bogota, &650 RT and then bought my tickets to BA for another $650 RT. Check it out, may work may not. Just need to find out what airlines fly out of Bogota and then on to Lima or whereever. I will say that my tix for this Christmas are double as well. Not so much based on fuel costs but remember it is summer there in our winter and also the holiday travel is always more expensive. Good luck.

Doug

Every other site I checked started at around $1100.00 for One Way....so I was thrilled to find a ticket for just $622.00!

I researched Travelocity, Expedia, Cheap Tickets, Hot Wire, and several others that specialized in international travel. It's pretty insane

This will sound backwards, but sometimes it is less expensive to get the round trip ticket. You might try to search it that way too.

I agree - RT flights are usually cheaper than one way (believe it or not).

Also, if the flight originates in Peru (not in the US) it is more expensive -- the Peruvian gov't puts a much larger tax on the tickets than the USGOV levies. This tax is in addition to the exit tax you must pay.

We use one of the consolidator travel agencies to buy our tickets: Costa Azul Travel or Mi Boleto Travel. We usually pay less than $800 MSP-LIM RT on Continental (via Houston). Sometimes we've paid as much as $900 but that was quite high for us. We've found them to be the best bet above the online sites, by far.

Key is having flexible dates and start way ahead of time: 6-8 months for the XMas season.

In Lima, FERTUR is a good agency and can sometimes give you a good price too. Ask for Yolanda.

My inlaws once got a great LIM-NYC fare via Wong (yes, the grocery store....).

Thanks for the suggestions :D

I actually did a search for Round Trip before I ever committed to a purchase. I researched for several weeks before settling for what I did. The option I found with Air-Savings was by far the best of any of search I performed.

I will use your recommendations when deciding who to use for purchasing tickets out of Lima....hopefully for 2!!!
