So my wife got through her immigrant visa interview with no issues. The embassy staff told her she would receive her visa within 10 days. The next day she gets an email stating her visa requires administrative processing and gives zero information. I call the embassy and they can't tell me anything except that it may take days, weeks, or even years to resolve and there is nothing I can do. I've been told this is for a security background check because my wife has my last name which is a very common spanish name. My wife is from a german farm town next to an air force base with proof she has a clean police record in germany. I'm really hating life right now. I hate the state department. We really need less government! All these security checks do nothing to keep us more safe. My wife can come to the US as a tourist without going through this garbage, how does this red tape do anything then?? I'm also in the Air Force and I can't even take leave right now to go see her. The AF is keeping me stuck in the US and the DOS is keeping my wife out of the US.

I wrote my senator.. I hope he can help but I doubt it.

I'm just venting. I wish I could punch something

I see that your case was resolved -- that's GREAT! But could you sign my petition, for those of us who aren't so lucky? The government needs to be accountable and currently there is no time limit for AP --

Thanks so much and I'm glad they came through for you. Another member is also in the military and has a pregnant wife who hasn't gotten in yet -- I'm also asking people to join American Families United (www.americanfamiliesunited.org) which is the only group working on these issues of family reunification for citizens and legal residents.

Welcome to the AP waiting room!

My husband got it at his interview on Aug 24. But at least they told us while we were still at the embassy.

Seems they are doing alot of this yes you are approved and then a few days later no you are in AP.

This is the most frustrating step of all for us. I don't know if I should plan a trip back to visit or just wait or what. This is day 75.

I contacted my senator and congressman and all the embassy will tell them is that it should finish in less than 5 months.

GOOD LUCK to you!

Hi, please sign my petition! We're asking the government to set a 90-day limit for AP, and to do a comprehensive review of the whole process of family visas -- there needs to be accountability in this system. The psychological toll is horrible, but it's also destructive to our civil society to have government behaving with impunity and no oversight.
