Not your typical airfare question.

I want to find a pair of seats for us from MNL to PDX (Portland, Oregon) which will be two seats alone, instead of two seats out of three or four. It seems awkward to explain that. What I mean is: Many planes have seat layouts of 3 + 4 + 3 or 3 + 3 + 3 (across the width of the aircraft). But, I'd like to find an airline & aircraft combo which flies from Manila into Portland (or Seattle) and has seats in pairs. Since all flights from MNL to PDX have stops somewhere, It would be fine if only the one long flight has paired seats like this.

I know I can somewhat figure this stuff out over the internet, but I must manually plod through the lists of flights and check each flight's listed aircraft at seatguru. Sometimes the flight will just say "767" and seatguru will list 8 different 767 configurations for that airline. So hopefully some of you remember the seat configurations from your flights over here :)

Hey there--I can tell you that I have always flown either US Airways or Jet Blue from MBJ to PDX and as far as I remember...all the flights I have ever been on were 3+3, and one time it was 3+3+3. Most international flights end up being this way I think to accomodate for more people. But, like you said you can research the internet. The fastest way is to go to each airline that flys from MNL to PDX and act like you're booking your flight, because most airlines will then let you "pick your seat" (for each leg of your flight) and it will show you the layout of the aircrafts that your actual flights would be on. I know that's not much help....but it's all I got :)

Find an airline with an Airbus A330. It will have 2-seat seating on the right side of the plane. PAL uses this but they don't go into Portland. They do go to Vancouver, Canada maybe you could catch connecting from there to Portland, OR.

Check the seating layout by airline, not by flight number. Most equipment will only have 1 or 2 configurations. If an airline has the layout you're looking for, try to book it.

Plenty of 2 seat seating at the front of the bus (biz and 1st class) at higher fares.

I came back on a PAL Airbus 330 on one of my visits. I thought the seating was 2-4-2 but not positive.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have found that some/most of Delta's 767s have 2-4-2 configurations, and it seems they might use those on the PDX-NRT route.

do you mind if I ask why? Is first class etc not an option? Will save on connections.

If first/business class will save money somehow, or not be super-expensive, I'm all ears. I think it's a bit wasteful spending to pay the huge fares for those classes. If money isn't too tight for the option, my preference would still be to help humanitarian efforts, etc, rather than sit in a comfier seat for half a day. However, if it's not as much as I imagine, and has some savings in un-obvious aspects of the total cost, I will definitely look at it for her first trip to the states. She is my bride after all, hehehe. Please elaborate on the savings, and how I might avail them :)

The reason is so we can just be more comfortable and have a little sense of privacy. I'm a big guy, my shoulders tend to almost reach both passengers next to me if I'm in a middle seat. So I end up having to sit awkwardly to avoid being a jerk to the other passengers. No problem when one of them is my sweetheart, of course. Plus, she definitely wants a window seat for her first trans-pacific flight, and if we get somebody sleeping between us and the aisle, it becomes awkward to get up for any reason. So it'd be nice to just have her on one side and the aisle on the other.

Hahaha, that's one "interesting" aspect of sitting near the back. But depending on the aircraft, there are often plenty of CRs available most of the time on the long hauls.
