Lenin, Castro, and even St. Paul will be the first to tell you that socialism or communism doesn't work, but St. Paul was the only one to say, no work, no food. Chavez thinks socialism will work, but he is driving his country into a deep depression. Capitalism can work, but has to be regulated, or otherwise we will be just like these dictatorship countries where we are at the point where less than 10% of our population controls over 90% of the wealth of this country. At the turn of the 19th century, Carnegie had more money in his pocket than the US government, owned all the homes the steel workers lived in, charged them rent, and they could only buy from his company stores. Theodore Roosevelt changed all that, the Regan administration changed that back the way it was. We had strong anti-trust laws, and extreme limits how foreign countries can own our key corporations, all that changed. We put a lot of money into South Korea, Viet Nam, and Japan after we invaded those countries, we got out of Viet Nam, they are still struggling, but South Korea and Japan, took away a huge portion of our jobs. You should tour visit the deserted ship yard on the western Lake Michigan coast where all those ships are being built in Korea now.

Disgusting that we cannot even get a patent in Japan, but in the automotive and electronic fields, 9 out of every ten patents issued by our patent office are going to Japan. Even more disgusting is that Sony owns our entertainment industry and using our FBI to protect them, just rent a DVD and read the fine print.

Also the Reagan administration deregulated the health insurance companies, my kid with Crohn's was kicked off my insurance policy because of this pre-condition, that cost me over $300,000.00 until I was broke before the only alternative I had was to put him on Medicaid. The company I worked so hard to build up experience a hostile take over by one of our key competitors thanks to Reagan. I saw all the equipment I worked so hard to buy either auctioned or given away by that company, I was heart broken. Did get a consulting arrangement with what was another competitor, insisted on that so I could buy my own equipment. Was doing very well until that idiot Clinton came in and opened these unfair trade policies with China.

I am so fed up with our government and feel they are all traitors to this country that I was expected to die for, but what the hell, am getting some benefits under the GI bill. Disgusted with both Bush and Obama for our involvement with Iraq and Afghanistan, further disgusted with Obama as we are trying to get my wifes' unmarried son out of Venezuela. Just read the Department of State sites, Obama is pushing for Africa now for any openings in our very limited immigration policy. Our son was backlogged another six years for waiting.

70% of our state educational tax dollar is going to retirement and medical health care cost, leaving only 30% of the actual schools, that really has gotten out of hand. I am totally disgusted with our current school system, was promised help with my step daughter, at 2:50 PM, all the teachers were long gone. No child left behind is all BS. Really have to struggle to put money in the bank for my property taxes, but feel I am being legally robbed by these crooked politicians.

How can anyone honestly be a republican or a democrat, from all appearances, one small group is controlling both parties and what a hell of choice in voting last Tuesday, have to guess at the worse between the less of two evils, but still voting for evil. We didn't get rid of organized crime, all these crooks are now running this country, the rest of us our slaves.

People who thought the job stimulus was good and should have spent more probably voted for the Dems and those who thought it didn't do much for job creation or was a waste voted for the GOP.

Exactly, people I know are mostly pissed because Obama sold the country on a stimulus plan of historical cost..... believing dams, high speed lines, serious infrastructure and other tangible things were going to be built and the only jobs that happened, were Govt jobs... it was the only sector that grew.

It's one thing to drive the Country into ungodly debt for something of benefit..... it's another to do it with the end result being more govt to support in the future.

Not sure why some Australians don't get this... no matter how slow you pitch it.

Did the People ever think about getting rid of both parties?

It seems like none in the US has ever done an analysis of their own electoral system against the Whitehall-type one they rejected in 1776. Whitehall-style systems (so long as the number of seats is odd¹) work for two-parties, but have the potential for chaos² for three or more--while US-style system (where top-post is NOT a function of having control of either house--lower or higher) theoretically³ can work for three or more parties.

1. if the number of seats is even, and you have only two parties--you can get a permanent deadlock; it really "works" best when there is an odd-prime number of seats.
2. forget "potential", this has been delivered-on in Israel and India
3. US-style system was lauded in a 1997 Hindustan Times editorial--after an election was scheduled for 1998 (due to coalition-collapse)--which concluded that the Whitehall-style system was not really suitable for any country other than Britain (whether it is suitable for Britain is a different-colour horse entirely). Also, in practice, US style system has NOT been tried with more than two parties

I remember last year we were all discussing how any of the stimulus money spent could only go to unionized companies. Sp pretty much union represent just a fraction of the workforce.
