Kasich beats Strickland in Ohio governor's race

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Former Rep. John Kasich (KAY'-sik) has defeated Gov. Ted Strickland in Ohio and seized GOP control of a state considered crucial to the 2012 presidential election.

The 58-year-old Kasich defeated Strickland with attacks over the loss of 400,000 jobs. The Democratic governor pointed to national economic factors and declining unemployment without success.

The new governor will help lead redistricting in the battleground state.

The fight hurt both Strickland and Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher, who led the administration's early job creation efforts. Fisher lost his bid for U.S. Senate Tuesday.

Kasich fought Strickland's attacks on his record as a managing director at Lehman Brothers, the failed investment bank. He promised to bring a more business-minded approach to the state's economy.

Ohio is crazy like that. We have progressive repubs and conservative dems. As much as I liked to see Strickland go, dude had an A rating on firearms. A dem with an A and a repub with a D. What gives?

Kasich is a fiscal conservative, a real fiscal conservative. Kasich and Domenici wrote the balanced budget that Clinton signed. I didn't even known John had a position on firearms. What do you base that rating on?

Now, if you want to go on supporting Strickland, who would have been one of Obama's strongest allies in 2012, go ahead, but not everybody lockstep with the NRA. I dropped my membership decades ago, when they stopped being sportsman oriented, and let any gun nut join the organization.

Where did I say I supported Strickland? I think if you'll read closely I said "as much as I liked to see him go." That would imply I didn't really care for him. I do like a little fiscal conservatism but I'm also glad you brought up Clinton. If he was working with Clinton that means he's been associated with Washington for way, way, waaaaaaaay too long.

As one of my buddies put it, "one doesn't trust us with our firearms, the other doesn't trust us with our money."
