And because we have the same number of Senators, but less population than a small city in CA, you can bump into Leahy or Sanders at the grocery store or walking at the lakefront. Alla exchanges photos with him (they are both amateur photo buffs) and we, our family, were invited to meet the governor with Leahy and Sanders when they were here for health care public hearings last summer (yeah, ME, Mr. Anti-health care  ) We got the grand tour of the state house and the boys got a history lesson on how government in the US and Vermont works. They were thrilled. I can walk into either of their offices any time and be treated like a friend and assited Leahy's office with wording to, hopefully, make your immigration process easier (I don't like the rest of the new bill though)but if it passes intact you will be able to get vaccinations and the I-693 signed off by any licensed physician. I have yet to meet a man more dedicated to the people of his state than Pat Leahy. He gets my vote forever and I will argue with him forever!

I feel sorry for the rest of you.

Well lets see how Ole Leahy votes.

I guessed you missed the part where I mentioned he is an acquaintance and that I have worked with his office on legislation now in the Senate. You thought I needed his website to know his views? I have sat in the room with Senator Leahy and discussed this. Did you think I was not aware of this? I have looked him in the eye and told him I disagree with him on MANY things, but I will do what I can to help him with issues that matter to me and help people in our state. It would not make things better not to. And I will give him credit for his dedication to the people here and for what he has done.

Leahy is a hugely powerful Senator, which Vermont has no business having, but we do. The VSC IS the VSC because of Leahy. It could be the NYSC or the NHSC, it is the VSC. That's 400 jobs in this county and that's huge. Why do people from NY and NH drive HERE for their AOS interviews and not vice versa? Alla has a JOB interpreting for USCIS and CBP because Leahy got these large operations located HERE. General Dynamics makes mini-guns in Burlington across the road from Lake Champlain Chocolates because of Leahy and IBM was lured here by Leahy. The DHS radar system that protects our borders and the frontline fighter planes that defend our country AND THE JOBS they bring, could just as well have been in New York or New Hampshire. They are in Vermont. JayPeak went from 35 employees to 700 employees because of legislation Leahy introduced that stimulated private business investment. Our unemployment rate is HALF the national average and the lowest in New England...because, largely, of what Leahy has done. UVM has a world class hospital and medical school because of Leahy and WE living here have these services, far more than our tiny population would otherwse justify and it is largely paid for by Canadians escaping their failed system. But it could just as well have been a huge employer in NY and WE could be taking the ferry across the lake to work over there...instead of them coming here.

Leahy has been our Senator since 1975 and he has been improving our state's opportunities since then.

I have personally worked with Leahy and his office (he has an awesome and incredibly effective staff) on issues related to immigration for people with family based visas. If you live in Vermont and have a problem with USCIS, a call to Leahy's office WILL fix it. WILL fix it. Pronto. Better yet, just walk in and work with his very knowledgable staff. We can do that here.

We, the people in this state, would be far, far behind with Britton in office instead of Leahy.

When taken as a whole, and I DO take things as a whole, there is NO WAY any other person could be of as great a service to the people of this state and THAT is his job. Leahy has THIS Libertarian's vote as long as he wants the job.

Is Gary going to move now?

To Australia.

They could never beat Montreal's night life, strip clubes, women and restaurants.

That's true. It is why I live in a south suburb of Montreal. Alla loves to check out the hookers on St Catherine. There is no law against being naked in Vermont but there are NO strip clubs I know of. I have never seen one. The women are far better in Montreal than Vermont but do not even hold a candle to the women in Ukraine. Give me Kreshatik St. in Kiev on a warm Saturday night any time. Holy Moley!

I think Canada and the US should trade Vermont and Maine for Quebec.

 THAT would be an intersting map. And what about our friends in NH? While we are at it...annex the Adirondacks, there is no reason those people should suffer NY.

This statement also implies that an MRI is available to everyone in the US (with insurance) without question. I can tell you from personal experience it is not.

Maybe not. But how many people in a city of 2 million need to drive 90 minutes to a city of 50,000 for the service? Are people in Chicago driving to Marengo for MRIs or did I miss something?

I like maple syrup, and Ben & Jerry's.
On the maple-syrup you can get better quality from CanadianFavourites (or, if you don't want to do it online, a road-trip to Montreal) than from Vermont.
Funny thing about California is everyone I know who lives there loves it. I can't say that for any other state.

Sometimes, I get the feeling California is some kind of cult.

And Canada also has an equivalent of that, albeit reduced down to one city--of course that is Pigtown (Toronto) :P
